what were you scared of?

Post by tubemad »

some of us may of been scared of something with the railways, nows the time where you can share it!

I used to be scared of the Intercity Swallow HST's when i was like 5 - 6 because there was something about that Intercity with logo on the side and what else scared me of them was the 'jet engine' at the back!

I remember someone saying to me they were scared of the 'big A' of Alphaline!

I was a bit scared of the HSTs when I was about five or six years old, the rear power car seemed so loud at the time! :) Sounds really good now though.

I used to have to cover my ears when a 125 left the station too!

I've never been scared of a train myself, but my ma tells me when she first went on a train back in the 1950s when she was little she was terrified when it came into the station because of all the steam and noise etc!

I used to hate the A4 Sir Nigel Gresley.
While Mallard used to sit on her turntable quietly, I only ever saw Sir Nigel Gresley in it's element. Well, when I say that I mean steaming. I wouldn't call 50mph or even worse, doing a 10-20mph at Carnforth, as the loco's element.
Anyway, it had a nasty habit of letting off steam with my in close proximity. When I was 8 or 9 an A4 letting rip was quite painful on the ears from a few feet away.

I used to be scared of falling out the door of a HAP on our lines. But when I was a kid I used to piss myself with excitement when a new Networker came by and we got on! This was when my gran took me to London to museums and such.

We used to play trains in the playground as well, I remember whizzing round the playground going "burrrrrrrr...burrrrrrrrrr....burrrrrrr..WHIIIIIIIIIIINE" LOL :)
