How about a Route "Preview" Video?
Would people be interested and download Route "Preview" Videos?
So i would drive parts of the routes then people can decide if they want to buy the route. My comp is quite good, and I have a TV card with video capturing cababilites, but i cant be bummed to set it up, unless i have a reason to.
Not sure about audio capture though, but still, that dont count!
Cheers,
Pete

It sounds like a good idea, but these video clips can be quite large in size and it wouldnt be easy for 56k dial-up users to preview a route.

They do get quite large, even as WMV format. Also it's not easy to do the capture and recording at the same time due to CPU usage.
I recorded some of Highworth from video out onto my camcorder, then used the TV card to capture it again - the file was several Mb and the quality not all that good. (Though it played really well on the TV)
I think you'd probably get better value out of 10 good quality screenshots.

Fraps looks good, but as I have TV Capture card and everything required to do it, i dont wanna spend more money on extra software. :/
A Video Camera would is no good at all. This is the first thing i tried, and exactly happened what i thought would. Refresh lines, due the monitor and Vidcam being at different rates.

I've just looked at the ones I did a few months ago. A 30 second clip without sound weighs in at a staggering 133MB!! Don't think many people would download that if I uploaded it, allthough at that size it would be impossible to upload with a dial-up connection. Unless Windows Movie Maker can considerably reduce the size of the file, but I haven't worked out how to use that yet.

Sounds like u recorded it at hi res and uncompressed. I used to work as a post production manager, and i could get 5 mins of low quality video for that space.
No use using SNAGIT, it cant handle 3d accelerated / full screen graphics. Its only designed to track things like powerpoint or windows operations. Not games. Try recording with it at 24fps...minimum needed to get smooth motion, and it crashes.

Or use msts in windowed mode ?
I've pointed my Webcam @ the monitor and video'd a bit of my route. but it's not very good to say the least.
5 Screenshots gave me a better assessment.

for an example of how much movie maker can reduce file size see my vids http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/jdstudios/videos.html
I think the 47 dragging HST out of par was reduced from 8.57mb to under 1mb.
It works better on a a huge .MPEG file to cut it down to a very small (alas lower res) .WMV file
