Need CD to run?
This may sound like a stupid question, but, I have both versions of MSTS, the original one and the one that was released a few months later (the one with the class 50 on in etc). The thing is, the original one, once installed that was it I didn't need the disks, however version two requires me to have one of the disks in the cd-rom whilst running msts
My question to the masses is, how can I use version two without needing to have one of the msts disks in the cd-rom drive

The original did NOT need the CD's to run, I ran it for about 4 months without the CD before I installed the patches.LucaZone wrote:The original did require the use of the CD to run, though this was removed with the updates.

And after the patch(both V1.1 and 1.2) for me, it still did can run without the CD!MichaelGreenhill wrote:The original did NOT need the CD's to run, I ran it for about 4 months without the CD before I installed the patches.LucaZone wrote:The original did require the use of the CD to run, though this was removed with the updates.
I've heard at train-sim.com, you can put in ANY CD you want. As long as there is a CD, MSTS will start up fine.

Can confirm FS2004 (which is excellent - I hope MTS2 matches the standard) needs one of the CD's (No.4 I think) in the drive to run. Funny thing about MTS1 - I have the original CD but patched. When I run it on the laptop(second licensed copy
), if I've had any CD in the drive before loading the editors it is asking for a CD both on starting the utility menu then the actual feature. However I don't get that if I go into the programme from a cold boot.
Also, I can just click on continue and the utilities run anyway.
Same thing doesn't happen with install on the main PC.

It's only asked me for the CD twice, and both times I clicked "Ignore" (or something similar) and the sim still worked fine, it just wanted to ask me a useless question for no reason. Gotta love Train Sim...

Er...Johncas...pardon? My install of MSTS has never asked for the MSTS CD to be in the tray, or if it has told me there is no CD, a blank one will do
GAME offer a 14 day no questions asked return policy, so if people want to break the law, this is an open invite for them to do so.
Frankly, however, the PC software industry, like the music industry, is fighting a losing battle. A decent proportion of customers, which I hope remains the vast majority, will always be honest and will buy licensed software and legal music, the minority who are crooks and thieves, will cheat to avoid paying money to play/listen to something that others have paid for. This is human nature - the good guys and the bad guys.

Just to say my copy of MSTS (bought the day it came out, then patched through downloads) has never asked for the CD to be in the drive, and that's been through 3 PC's (well, one box, ever improving innards!) and goodness knows how many re-installs!
Chaz.
