Railroad Color Reference Chart

Post by 3DTrains »

Hi all - please excuse the cross-post...

I've started on a color chart based on railroads in North America, and I would like to know if there's an interest in a section for European colors? Considering my ignorance of equipment on your side of the pond, any help in assembling the list would be greatly appreciated. :)

For an example of how the page is laid out, have a look here:

Cheers!

I'd certainly be interested in having a colour chart for UK railways. Suggested it ages ago (maybe a year ago now) and the general opinion was that it would be a good idea, but it's just who decides on which colour is right, and who's got the time to go through every single colour (there's oh-so-many!)

Thanks - my thought is however, that if it doesn't get started it'll never get done. I don't expect the list to be an all inclusive one, just the ones submitted for inclusion. Those submitted will be discussed and cross-referenced/confirmed before posting to the page. I suspect some things will change if MSTS2 changes its in-game palette.
Cheers!

Hi Marc,

About 18 months ago, I uploaded several scanned sheets of railway paint colours, used by modellers here in the UK, to the file library.
Unfortunately they are a tiny bit too dark, but with this knowledge, most of us have managed some kind of uniformity of colour.

In general, if we don't have the colour, we "borrow" it from an existing model.

The idea of a library is probably more relevant to more modern stock, steam tended to be dirty and the paints varied within each company.

Hi Paul - I'll check them out, thank you! :)

Horgy - thank you for your color reference! There appears to be plenty interest in the subject, and I hoping others will chime in with their own colors from other countries. :)
Cheers!

I came accross an official document supplied by the Docklands Light Railway listing their standard colors in CMYK, Pantone, and RGB. It would have made my job so much easier had other railways around the world followed suit! :o
