The MS Train Sim 2 forum is down that way folks! It was set up this morning! 8) *points to the bottom of the forums*

Whist myself, not being a steam buff and more into diesels and electrics, I'm a tad dissapointed that another steam route in MSTS 2, allthough not quite so dissapointed to discover that the route may well indeed be the Somerset & Dorset Railway as this will be a great route. But saying "another poxy old time steam route " is a little unfair, as Saddletank quite rightly says. This simulation has to have something for everyone for all ages, with a good mix of steam and diesel/electric trains to run, and freight and passenger activities. Diesel and electric fans will probably find the German route the most appealing to them.

The PRR that they are showing in the preview pics is also a steam road. Though why they picked the late 40's is beyond me. The track and the K4's were beat to hell by the rigors of WW2. The K4's (the engine in the pic) were completely worn out by then. The one thing is though, the track remained the same until the late 70's, the era I like to do activities for, until CR pulled up the third track in places and then in the 90's when they finally made the clearances high enough for doublestacks to pass through. I am curious to see how much of the western side of the moutain in modeled. That grade can be as nasty as the east side of the mountain. Helpers both ways.

It should be a modern route i wouldnt mind if it aint in UK then it ent so much the 'steam route' aspect it is the Old Timey aspect
I'm with Phil here. I'm no big fan of steam, and ANOTHER steam UK route from Microsoft lowers my faith in them to negative figures. What happened to variety? If M$ included both Modern AND old stock it wouldnt be so bad, then we would have the choice.. Oh well :-?

possibly - look at the track spacing - I don't think it's 6' way, then again the first British route wasn't either. On the other hand, it isn't electrified.

That black5 screenshot isn't on a UK route. The station shelter looks like the same style the US loco was on, so either the US route or German route, methinks.

And judging by the track there looks to be a new form of dynamic track in there!
Look in the background of the pic of the loco on the turntable; the ground signals are at sleeper level but to one side so are floating in the air beside that raised track. Yuck.

And that raised track. Ummm....not very British looking that high shoulder of ballast is it?

From a German Route point of view it doesn't look that great.

There are plenty of good 103 models about, and Essen is just next door to Wupper 7.0 - in fact the station looks like to came out of Wupper 7.0.

Yeah, but Wupper Express, pretty good that it is, is highly fictional - the MSTS version should be more accurate.

Well, if I ever feel the need to ride on a bit of plastic, I just buy a train ticket on today's soulless railway and take a ride. If I really want to drive one, I get a drivers job. Most of us don't. The essence of MSTS is that we can drive whatever, wherever and to me the chance of dieselising the S&D is one I can't wait for - remember this is a game, use your imagination!

On an aside, do they issue differnet versions of Flight Sim to cater for those who prefer the Airbus to the Spitfire, and vice versa? Perhaps this is the way it'll go?

And if you don't like, vote with your wallet! Bet ya' won't resist....

Yes, they call it "Combat Flight Simulator" ;)

I'm not attacking steam, I just think we have an english steam route already, throwing more in won't attract more customers that's all. In all my life with MSTS (and ive had it since its US Release) i've driven a steam train once. They are uninteresting to me. That doesn't mean EMU's are interesting, but its nice to have a selection.
