You would get a better photo at Kings X becuase you can't get a decent one at Stevenage.

I'd agree it can be difficult to get a decent shot at Stevenage Station - it's a narrow site and straight. If you get there early enough you may be able to get a good position at the south end of platforms 1-2, but with all the OHL equipment it's tricky.

I will be going to the site of the old station on Julians Road, there's a little industrial estate on the site of the old good yard and it's a lot easier to get pictures there - judging from the timings it's not stopping.

In fact 22mins from Freight Jc to pass Stevenage is going some - I imagine it will be load 12 or so. The best I remember experiencing when they were in service was on a weekday down York stopper in 1979 with load 8, it did KX to Stevenage stop in 21mins 30sec, including a 20mph slack at Welham Green... unfortunately I didn't take the engine's number.

61 minutes Newcastle to York is very respectable indeed, especially with a stop for 2 mins in Durham - I take it the train won't stop in Darlo then?

Sadly won't be about to see it, but have booked for the DPS tour on 7 June down to KX - hope that has decent timings too.

At least, I think I've booked: I haven't heard a thing since sending my cheque off a month ago - is this normal or should I be concerned? Will be rather disappointed if I've missed out, as the last rail tour I went on was in about 1985 or 1986!!!

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the advice Deltic, I may come down as well.

If you photographers out there (south end of line) have decent cameras, instead of Stevenage, consider a view from the west side fields at Welwyn Viaduct.

Just a suggestion

Ah, the stuff of dreams... I kinda gathered that the NRM were dead against it, sadly (would love to be wrong on that). I think it's engines are unusable (i.e. unrestorable - absence of pistons, for example!) - but are they any different from those in the production Deltics? I'm sure if someone gave them enough money it could be done...!
