I may have been wrong about testing all the wagons.
since most of the wagons in the packs were upgraded over a long period of time, some may have been missed.

When completing a model I use Polymaster to add LODS.
I then compress the files using the Polymaster compresser.

I suspect Polymaster makes changes to the S file that prevent it working when uncompressed.

It's also possible to compress/uncompress files using Route Riter - see Tab labelled MSTS File Utils.

Personally I too prefer Shape File Manager.

Thanks for the pointers guys. I've had a go with both Shape File Manager and Route Riter.

They both seem to do the job okay.

I found that the advantage of using Router Riter was that it was possible to compress/uncompress files in bulk (as long as the shape files were in the same folder).

As far as I could figure out, with Shape File Manager the files had to be done one at a time.

Agreed, however I personally just find SFM the simpler of the 2 to use, that's why I suggested it when you asked for the 'easiest' way , providing of course you don't have dozens of files to process. Once you get the hang of both methods, you'll soon find which suits you best.... Each to one's own.
Incidentally, to go t'other way (i.e.to compress files) I find zipper (in tweaks) preferable, as you only need to 'drag & drop'.
