Re: LNWR Route
My limited understanding is that the LNWR bought a number of tank carrying trolleys - "Warflats" - from the War Department after the end of World War 1. They were allocated Diagram Numbers 109 and 110. The former was known as a Rectank and could carry 35 tons, and the latter was known as a Bogie Trolley and could carry 40 tons. The tanks were considered top secret and hence would be delivered sheeted over. A train ferry was operated from the military port of Richborough to Calais and Dunkerque. As they were effectively out of gauge both the sponsons and rear steering wheels were shipped separately!

Hi Eric and Alec,BrianB wrote:Hi Ian,
Thanks for doing a new Warflat - as the original wagon was listed as a MR D1095 and came in the Skipton CD stock, I naturally assumed that it must have been a pre-grouping design.
On further research, I found in Essery's MIdland Wagons book Vol-2, in Plate324, it shows the Rectanks were originally made to carry First World war tanks, so the included wagon is actually correct.
Regards, Brian
Eric - there is no need to wait for Ian's new model - my suggestion for the Military 1 activity uses the Midland D1095 Rectank (complete with a suitable WW1 tank loaded on-board) - this is available from the Skipton CD or the Skipton stock downloads from the UKTS file library as detailed in my Guidelines document.
Alec - my activity suggestion was to simulate a traffic exchange activity by using a set of MR Rectank wagons loaded with obsolete/damaged WW1 tanks, picked up from Grand Junction exchange sidings, running over LNWR metals to the ordnance factory at Badnall Wharf for scrapping after the war.
Brian.

Re: LNWR Route
The Rectank (Railway Executive Committee tank wagon) referred to as Diagram 109, was the same as that for the Midland Railway. It might be of interest to note that these wagons were requisitioned in the Second World War to carry a later generation of tanks.

Re: LNWR Route
The Rectank on the LMS and Skipton CDs was built by Paul Mitchell.
I obtained his permission to repaint it and issue it in BR livery - File 18564.
The WD version with tank is on the Bala CD.
I have been collaborating with docmartin to produce wagons for the military depot on his forthcoming route.
These include WW2 versions of the Rectank, Warflat and Warwell.
The release on the LNWR route took me by surprise. Didn't expect it so soon.
Information on the Warflat is obscured by military secrecy but I have just found some info in, of all places, the LNWR wagons book.
This tell me that there were two versions of the Warflat. I have built the early version that did not last to be used in WW2. I am now working on the other version.
I will upload the wagons soon but will send the unfinished wagons tonight to anyone who requires them for an activity.

Hi Brian
The reason I am waiting for Ian's version with the exWW1 tanks, is that I cannot unzip any of the Skipton stock as it has been compressed with Applian media file (.bin) - which opens as a video screen! There is nothing I can do with that stuff!!!!
Ian - I will send you a PM with my email address - please send the new stock finished or unfinished.
Cheers

Hi Eric,
Cheers,
Ged
Applian is usually associated with audio and video files - are you sure it's not a 'normal' .bin file, with, probably an accompanying .cue file? If it is, then there are several free utilities which will unpack it, eg WinISO, ISO Workshop. IZarc seems to be very capable - http://www.izarc.org/ and PowerISO is a good paid-for product which, in its free version, will only unpack files up to 300MB.I cannot unzip any of the Skipton stock as it has been compressed with Applian media file (.bin)
Cheers,
Ged

Re: LNWR Route
I have uploaded the Rectank from the Bala route.
Allow to overwrite if you already have it.
Warflats are in the paintshop.

Hi Chaps
Upon starting an activity, I get an error message "Train world initialisation failed". Any ideas anyone?
This is the new Black Country LNWR route we are all currently concerned with.

Re: LNWR Route
Hi guys,
I just had another thought that might explain some of the 'minor problems' with the Black Country - LNWR route. I built and tested the route with tsection.dat build 38 - I know that some of you are using tsection.dat build 42UK. I don't know if any of the differences between these two files could be the cause of some of the problems.
My MSTS installation (only used for route editing) will stay with build 38, as I have other non-British routes that use that version, and I'm not into creating mini-routes with individual tsection files.
Regards, Brian

Was it decided this this is a potential problem or not?BrianB wrote:Hi guys,

Hi David
Yes, I'm sorry, I've not been well again for a few weeks! Should have let you know. I am recovering and am doing a bit when I feel well enough.
The activity is nearly complete. I just have to add a few more #AI trains to the light engine run back from Bagnall Wharf to Stafford shed. When I've completed those, it will be ready for final testing.
I'll try to get it finished within the next few days - it all depends on how much time I can sit at the PC without pain.
Thanks for asking.
