07.30 Kings X to Edinburgh act, MEP+

Hi all,

Having a problem at the start of this act. I fuelled up and I've coupled up to the coaches, pressed enter to pick up the passengers but I cannot uncouple the loco that brought the train in earlier. When I double click to un-couple from the loco the coaches disappear in the train operations box. I'm sure I've done everything it says in the instructions.

I don't know what I am doing wrong because I've managed to do it a few weeks ago.

Regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
I have exactly the same problem, but I don't know the reason :(

For the information of those who might be able to help, the Player loco successfully couples to a loose consist standing in the platform. When the loose consist's original loco is uncoupled, the whole consist vanishes from the Train Operations window and, although it is still visible, the Player loco is no longer coupled to it and will not re-couple.

When the Player loco couples to the coaches, the passenger loading time begins to count down. The instructions imply that uncoupling of the original loco should occur during the unloading time, but I think I didn't do it until after the time had completed. Could this be the problem??

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Steve and Ged, looking at my downloaded Activity files for the Route, I found two files with similar names the first was in File ID 35704 and
the other was the one below.
Checking in the library, the first one is now not available and I must assume that this is the one you are both having trouble with and the
author re-wrote it and submitted the latter as a replacement.

Hi Bob,
No sir! I'm running file ID 35715 - AND I've found the answer!!

When coupling to the loose consist, I expected the Player loco to appear at the left hand end of the F9 display. It DIDN'T!! Instead, the original loco appeared at the LH end but I went to the other end of the consist and uncoupled the (Player) loco (not noticing that it was blue!). That doesn't explain why I couldn't re-couple, but I won't worry about that for now!

However, as soon as I twigged what was happening, the train got away on time!!

The activity you linked to is a later one, using more modern equipment!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged, looking at the run that you were having trouble with, I didn't have that one but have now have it in my downloads Route Activity Folder.
My File i.e. 35704 is exactly the same one as 35715 but 35704 was available on the 17/6/2016 but 35715 appeared on the 22/6/2016 and as
I said 35704 has been removed from the library, I wonder why ?.
Yes, I agree that 35725 is a modern version of the run but as I didn't have 35715, I assumed that the author scrapped 35704 as it was faulty and
replaced it with a new one, I was going to say before you posted that Steve had uncoupled the wrong loco and therefore this explains why the
whole consist disappears.
I therefore looked at both activities I had and the one that you needed to couple up to stationary coaches was 35704 and so my post reflected this.

Cheers
Bob

Hi Bob,
Thanks :) Yes, I have both 35704 and 35715 in my archive, although I haven't run the former. I can only assume that it was faulty in some way - there was no explanation in the readme for its replacement. I'll try it later today.

Cheers,
Ged

As the author of this activity i think i replaced it with a new version because the signal wasn,t properly in sight when connecting to the consist and whilst repositioning it i lost the player path and so had to redo the activity.

Hi Stan,
Thank you :)
I've just successfully completed the withdrawn activity! I like activities with plenty of traffic, and this one has lots. The only oddity was the use of 3rd rail EMUs throughout, including arriving and departing Doncaster!! But they didn't detract from my enjoyment of it.

Well done, Sir!

Whenever I run an activity on MEP, I feel we owe Mick, and his team, huge thanks and congratulations for creating such a route - it's fantastic :)

Cheers,
Ged

Thank you Ged :D

I am currently busy trying to get my head round Open Rails and hopefully one day MEP can be 'transferred' for full and reliable use on this format.

Many things are better in OR but there are still some minor issues such as vacuum braking. This is concerning me as I am also currently into Steamers. Generally however, the train physics is much more realistic in OR and much easier to achieve, without the need for quirky eng and wag files. There will be a Diesel/Steam Version in due course. My testing is taking place on a modified version of the Settle Carlisle default route and it has working turntables which is great. S&C provides a really good test of the physics with its long 1.3% gradients.

Hi Ged, Bob and Mick,

I read your post from last Saturday and I've now got it to work. I did notice the different colours of the two locos and the coaches but I didn't realise the significance of it.

Anyway thanks for your help with the problem.

I would also like to pass on my thanks to Mick and his team for such a fantastic route. I particularly like the track sound.

Cheers,
Steve
