Saving S Files in Activity Editor

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, I have installed the activity RS Flying Scotsman in my EB East Coast express Route.
However I can not get it to run because SRV file RS Up_NSE 317 Woodgreen s file is out of date and needs to be saved in the activity editor.

Please can someone take me through the procedure for doing this as I cannot make head or tail of what to do.

Many thanks

Andy

Andy,

1. Open the Activity Editor.
2. Open the activity (File | Open - find the activity and click on it and then press Open (bottom right) )
3. You'll get one or more "out of date" messages. Click Okay on each one.
4. When the activity has fully loaded save it (File | Save).

That should do it.

John.

I have managed to save the activity in the activity editor and thanks for the reply John.

Sadly it still does not work as I then get a message, Service RS_Up_RR156 York Path RS_Up_RR156 York Path setup after load failed"

Service RS_Up_RR158 York Path RS_Up_RR158 York Path setup after load failed"

The activity does not load and crashes back to desktop. So looks like I will have to abandon this activity which is a shame as I had to download
quite a lot of additional stock items which made the activity look very interesting.

I obviously have no idea what these two error messages mean or what to do about them!
Can anyone help me here?

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
I see you're using the East Coast Express route from EB,

Do you have all the parts installed for the activity you're attempting to run?
If so, were they installed in the correct sequence and with the correct "linking" patch?

The activity you've mentioned - RS Flying Scotsman - does not appear to be one of those supplied with the various parts of the route (but I could be wrong!). Also, I've not been able to locate it in the UKTS library.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Andy, I had problems with Activity as it kept locking my screen up and after looking at all the possible causes couldn't find any so I gave up
on it and deleted the Activity in the combined Parts 1, 2 and 3 East Coast Express Route Folder, all the other Activities for this Route ran without
any trouble.
I've still got my Activity Analyser sheets for this act along with other Acts that caused me problems on other Routes but just put them to one
side and continued on with the next one.
For Information the Activity is the one below :-

Hi Bob,
Thanks for identifying the correct activity.

From the readme, it needs parts 1 and 2 of ECE to be installed. My ECE comprises all 4 parts, but I'll try it on that first.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged, the readme does say that you need at least Parts 1 and 2 installed but I think I got a Track Data Base difference pop up message when I
tried loading the .apk file in my Route with only those two Parts in so played safe and installed it in after I added the Leeds Loop and this time
got no message.

Hi Bob and Andy,
I got the same "setup after load failure" message. It affects two services, "RS_Up_RR_156 York" and "RS_Up_RR_158 York" and certainly seems like a broken path. Unfortunately, when this activity is loaded into AE, it freezes and the route can't be zoomed into to investigate the path (maybe the Open Rails TrackViewer could help!). If you want to run the activity, it's simplest to delete those two services, in AE, then save - the act then starts OK.

I found one other, unrelated, problem - if you use the Dorset Coast Freightliner folders, the activity contains the incorrect folder name for the EmptyFGA wagons.

Cheers,
Ged

No I certainly would not know how do go about deleting any of those files, I steer clear of things that I do not understand! and that certainly includes the activity
editor, Looks far too complicated for the likes of me.

This is so far the only add on activity that has failed on me on East Coast Express. Sadly I would have liked to have run it on the basis that, one it had intercity
liveried stock and two there was albeit static quite a bit of freight traffic.

As I have been adding all of the new activities to my backed up ECE Route, It will be quite easy to safely remove the 60 files relating to this activity and I can also remove all of the items of stock back to their respective folders.
Thanks for the help anyway.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
If you REALLY want to run this activity, you can, if you carry out the following :

1. If you've not been able to re-save the activity for Service "RS_Up_NSE_317 Wood Green S", do not do it yet!
2. If you've used the Dorset Coast route for the Freightliner wagons, the incorrect folder name is shown in the RS_Flying_Scotsman.act file. Open this file and scroll about 3/4 of the way down where you'll find 3 lines
like this : "WagonData ( EmptyFGA UKW_BR_Freightliner_loaded )"; change them to read : "WagonData ( EmptyFGA UKW_BR_Freightliner_FFA_FGA )" then re-save the .act file.
3. When the Ultimate Class 37 sounds have been installed, open the common.sound folder, find the UltClass37snd folder and create a copy of it called UltClass37
4. Open the SERVICES folder and delete the two files "RS_Up_RR_156 York.srv" and "RS_Up_RR_158 York.srv".
5. If not done, go into AE and re-save the activity for Service "RS_Up_NSE_317 Wood Green S".

The activity should now start without any errors; however, you will be missing the Class 156 and Class 158 services in the York area.

I have NOT run this activity to its conclusion, so there may be other errors which I've not discovered!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged, thanks for your findings and as far as looking at the two services, I know a way of looking at the two paths to see if they are o.k. but
it would take a lot of explaining on here to how it can be done.
I won't be able to look into this matter for quite a while as I'm so busy with other things relating to MSTS but will post on any findings that come
forward.

Hi,
Update : Making the aforementioned amendments, I was able to complete the activity, arriving York just over 6 minutes early.

Thanks, Bob. The only way I know of fixing broken paths is to use AE, but I'm not having much luck at present :(

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged, after another bit of thinking about this problem, there is a simple way to check the paths and this is load the working amended activity
into MSTS and if you are using Trainstore it will only load in the necessary files needed to do it and you will be able to look at it in AE. which I
agree is the only way to edit any of the files.
Once you have the files needed, move the two problem paths into the Route path folder from where Trainstore has put them and then create a
new Activity for this Route in AE. and call it say "TEST", now using the Editor create a new Players service and call this "Test Service", use the old
Players Consist and now choose one of the faulty Paths as your Players Path.
You can look at it to see if it is faulty and if possible repair it and save it, repeat this with the other one saving the path when finished, this new
activity can be forgotten about when you leave the Editor as all you wanted to do was look at these two paths.
Un-store everything in Trainstore and reload the original Activity using the .apk file but overwrite the Activity and Traffic files but say no to all the
other files and the Activity should run as intended.

Hi Bob,
I've been able to get into AE and look at the path/s in question. They are definitely broken, with the end-point "floating" away from the track, but I've not been able to correct them.

Cheers,
Ged

If the end point isn't on the track and that's the only part that's broken, just click and hold on the end point and drag it to the appropriate track. It's usually possible to figure out which is the appropriate track by looking at the last node that the path goes through.
