Cab Swapping

Hi Chaps
The creation of a new activity for Dorset Coast V6 requires a cab swap from a Pannier to a Battle of Britain outside Weymouth! Trouble is, for the life of me, I can't remember the procedure required to do this!!! Damnit!!!
So I require your help. MSTS BIN PATCH - Patch 1.7.102222 is installed on this route. Is this the correct patch for this movement?
Hope you can help.
Cheers
Eric

Hi Chaps
You must all be scratching your heads out there?
My understanding was that to swap cabs - engine to engine - you adopted the following procedure:-
Couple to the other engine;
Apply brakes;
Set regulator to "0";
Press F9;
Select the engine you wish to move to by clicking on it with your mouse;
Press "1".
This should move you to the other cab! However, in my case, it is not working!!!!
So what am I missing out? Do you need to press another key at the same time as the "1" key?
Hope someone knows the answer.
Cheers
Eric

Hi Eric, I've never had to swap cabs in anything other than Diesels but the same rule must apply no matter how the power is supplied, you
need to be in neutral in a diesel so I assume that you need to set the reverser also to zero before pressing F9.

Hello Eric.
By what I can see, you appear to have done everything correct.
I do not have this route but have an understanding of the layout at Weymouth.
So you have uncoupled the Pannier tank from the train, moved forward into jersey sidings, coupled to the BB.
I assume that you are in the cab of the pannier (Key 1) Press F9 to change locos select the pacific cab press key 1 which should now put you
into the cab of the Bullied.
Shunt Pannier into siding, detach move forward thence back on to your train.
Have just run the Folkstone Harbour act, with the three R1's and had no problem changing cabs.
Hope this is of help.
Best wishes.
Andy

Hi Andy
Many thanks for reminding me of the activity I created for SouthEast that involved a cab swap. Glad to see it is still functioning well for you - date of that activity was 14 February 2014.
Yes, I knew I was doing the basics correctly, but cannot understand why it isn't working? However, bear in mind that I haven't created a cab swap on Dorset Coast before - so I have no precedent to fall back on.
Perhaps I will have to resort to my original plan of starting the activity with a pre-formed consist starting from Weymouth Station instead of the Quay. Pity, but if I can't get this cab swap to work - I have no alternative,
By the way, your analysis of the train movement was spot on - you should be creating activities yourself!
Cheers
Eric

Just a thought, but is the loco you're trying to swap to an AI? That is, does it have a cab? I'm not sure if the bin patch allows you to swap to a loco with no cab.

Hi Dennis
Thanks for the thought, but yes, both loco's are Player - the waiting loco is not an AI.

Hi Eric,
Just following Bob's suggestion that the reverser should be set to zero,
I created a consist with a default Flying Scotsman at each end of a couple of coaches and found that the reverser does NOT have to be set to zero to swap cabs. This still worked after separating and then re-coupling a loco.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Eric,
One line you missed in your method was to press 1 to enter the cab of the 1st loco before attempting to jump to the 2nd. You can't be in view 2, 3 etc when attempting cab swapping.
The rest of the procedure is correct.

Thanks Ged and Clive
I've tried everyway - being in the Pannier cab as I couple to the Battle of Britain or the Merchant Navy - I've tried several combinations of view and engines.
But it just doesn't happen - I stay in the cab of the Pannier - never moving to the other engine.
Reckon I'll just have to give this one up.
Cheers anyway chaps.

Hi Eric,
Here comes a silly question
Are you certain that the Bin Patch is correctly installed?
To check, press F5 3 times and you should get white printing on the screen. If not .....
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Eric.
I wish.....That I could make activities, But do not have the skills.
No it was actually based on Route Knowledge from the last 40 years, I was a train guard.
Sadly the station is a ghost of what it was, there is only the excursion platforms left on the Southern most side, The rest has been swallowed up
by a B&Q warehouse.
The tramway at the moment still has the track running through the streets, but there have been no trains for at least fifteen years.
I do not have Dorset Coast but I do have several of your activities and really enjoy running them.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Ged
Your "silly" question was spot on! There is no white text on third depression of the F5 key! I failed to check that out - damnit!
Let me sort this and I'll get back to you ..................................

Hi Andy
Your route knowledge is superb after all these years. Seriously, you should have a go at creating activities - it is no big deal - honestly.
My dear wife calls my hobby "playing with trains!" I am at pains to point out that to me it is "work"! The more of us that go to work each day, the better our hobby will become.
Cheers

Hi Ged
I'm really stuck now! I have uninstalled and then reinstalled MSTS Bin Patch in all four versions I have at my disposal:-
MSTS BIN PATCH - Patch 1.7.051922
MSTS BIN PATCH - Patch 1.7.102222
MSTS BIN PATCH - Patch 1.8.052113
MSTS BIN PATCH - Patch 1.8010516en
None of them give me the white text on 3rd depression of the F5 key - and none of them therefore gives me a cab swap.
What can I do other than follow the install instructions from the patch installer? Could it be something intrinsic in the DNA of Dorset Coast V6 itself that is preventing correct installation of the patch? Is it working on your copy of the route?
Eric
