Hi Ged
The Train.exe shown on Dorset Coast V6 is MSTSBin 1.7.102222 : 18/10/2007 @ 3,997KB.
The route continues to provide interest, although I think the 4mph drag along the Quayside will test many users patience to the limit! It takes nigh on 17 minutes to reach the first uncouple near where the BB is stabled.
I am now conducting the initial timing run to Waterloo - then I'll add all the AI's - then the static lineside stuff - then I might be ready to upload. But Oh Lord, the thought of having to undertake that 4mph run EVERY time I make a change to the activity is daunting.
Cheers
Eric

Hi Chaps
Despite all my efforts, this activity cannot be created using steam traction in its present form!!
I've just been conducting the initial timing run - having swapped from the 1366 Pannier into the BB Class in Jersey Sidings - but only got as far as the approach to Wareham, before the BB ran out of water!!!!!
Unless anyone knows how to place a player loco in a siding filled with water - while it awaits its train - I can't see how I might proceed? All the engines I've tried, have had more than 100% coal - but zero water.
Dorset Coast has no servicing facilities for steam engines! Pity.
Cheers

Re: Cab Swapping
Hi Eric,
Please don't give up yet!!
A long time ago I posted this : http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... s#p1526615
It's concerning the Engine Variables, found at the end of every steam loco eng file. It's all explained in my posts - I must apologise but the charts have gone AWOL!! The nub of the problem is that 99.9% of steam locos have the incorrect number of entries in the Engine Variables list; there should only be 9, not 10. It only affects locos which start an activity as Loose Consists or AIs.
This might not be the reason for your loco running out of water, but, to me, it's very likely! It's certainly be worth a try, anyway
If it is the solution, you will, of course, need to get permission to supply a modified eng file with your activity.
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : I had hoped to reproduce the chart, referred to above, here, but it appears that I'm not able to!

Hi Ged
I have printed off your chart and now I will check out the .eng file of the BB in question ................. get back to you asap.
Thanks again for giving us all the benefit of your knowledge.

HI Eric,
It appears that my inability to see the charts is down to the Chrome browser I'm using!! After you said you'd seen them, I wondered "how could you?", so I tested with the Thunderbird browser, and there they were!
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged
Bulleid designed a reduced capacity tender based upon the Merchant Navy version. It could carry 4,500 imp gal (20,460 L; 5,400 US gal) water and 5.00 long tons (5.1 t) of coal on a six-wheel underframe.
The 4500 gallons wasn’t a problem and 5 long tons converts to 11200 lbs of coal. I have reset the .eng file variables in the loose consist engine - BR BB 34070 – and therefore she should have 4500 gallons of water and 100% of coal in the Tender when we cab swap from the BR Class 1366PT in Jersey Sidings.
This engine is in the Trainset as DR_BR_BB_34070, so I guess I’ll have to ask Dave for permission to alter his .eng file.
Now let's run the activity again and see if this works first .......................... get back as soon as ......................................
Cheers

Hi Ged
That modification does the trick all right, but as I've discussed elsewhere, I find the Bullied Light Pacifics a trifle underpowered - especially on the run from Weymouth up to Bincombe Tunnel. I might be looking for a more powerful engine before this activity is complete?
Anyway, can't do anymore today - speak again over the weekend.
Cheers

Re: Cab Swapping
Hi Eric,
Glad to be of help
Whichever loco you pick, just count the number of values in the Engine Variables list - if there are 10, then it needs modifying!!
It's interesting to note that the default Scotsman and Pendennis have 10 entries, while the 380 and RoyalScotClass have 9
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged
I've gone for a double header of a Std 4MT pilot with a BB as train engine - both driveable - so choose your cab when swapping in Jersey sidings. On test, this makes one hell of a difference on the 1:50 climb out of Weymouth. I am experimenting with a banker - just to give us a more interesting operating opportunity, if that scenario prevails, then the Pilot will be dropped.
Cheers

Re: Cab Swapping
Hi, the usual cause of the no text problem is forgetting to copy the 2 dll files from the Translated DLLs folder into the main directory.

Re: Cab Swapping
Hi Mark,
I'm not so sure about that!!
I must confess, I very rarely copy the dll files over - all my current installations are using the original 2001 dialog.dll and string.dll files - and I don't have any problems.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Cab Swapping
If you don't copy them over, you don't get the extended dialogue boxes in the activity selection screens and not all of the screens appear properly - at least they didn't on mine.

Re: Cab Swapping
Just had a mess round, and in order to select the locomotive you wish to swap to, in my case anyway, you have to right click it in f9, not left click, before trying to enter the cab. Don't know if anyone else has tried this?
