I have just attempted to reinstall my old WSR and SVR add ons from Just Trains to MSTS. The game itself and all my other addons run fine (using Windows 10 64 bit) however I am having issues with these two add ons. The WSR will load the language select for the setup, but after I click okay, thats it, the setup itself does not load. Then, for SVR, I get this error message in picture provided after I click 'next'. Can anyone help?
These two routes require a key to be entered in order to install them. If you don't have it/them, you may be able to get it/them from wherever you originally purchased the route/s, as long as you have the original invoice/s, and they are still in business!
Hi regarding these two routes I have the same problem and I get a similar message.Over the years I re-installed them a number of times and I never had to key in anything, the install shield wizard just went through the process of installing automatically. However i did contact Just Trains where I bought them from some years ago and I was more or less told that because of the age of the CDs it could be problem with the install shield wizard. So at the moment I have got two very good useless add ons. This happened on my previous XP computer and also the same on my new windows 7 computer.Thanks.Peter.
Hi Peter,
Thanks for refreshing my memory
The key I was thinking of is required for installing the download versions of these routes.
I also have the CD versions, but they won't install into Windows 7!! I believe the reason, at least for WSR, is that the disk is protected by SecuRom. I seem to remember a Windows update added something which disabled that system. For SVR, Microsoft Security Essentials throws up a message that it's detected a "threat" and removed it.
I'll look into it further and post back, because I don't want to lose these two excellent routes (even though I think I have backups of the MSTS installations containing them).
Hi,
First, some good news -
As I suspected, WSR is prevented from installing by the SecuRom service not running in Windows. Note that the following solution will NOT work for Windows 10 because the service was never included in that OS - it should work for 7, 8 and 8.1.
There are two methods to try, one easy and the other slightly more complicated.
1. Open a Command Prompt (black box) as administrator - type : sc start secdrv and press ENTER
If you get a message which includes "can't start because it's disabled or ...", then try the second :
2. Locate Windows Update KB 3086255, which was issued in Sept 2015, and uninstall it. Reboot the PC.
The first didn't work for me, but the second allowed me to install WSR without any problem. If the first works for you (ie you get a message something like "service started"), Microsoft recommend that the service should be stopped as soon as possible, by typing : sc stop secdrv.
Please be warned - if you uninstalled KB 3086255, Windows Update will try to re-install it!
The bad news is that the above doesn't work for SVR, but I'm still looking ...

Hi Ged,
cheers for the help. Unfortunately I have W10, so it is not possible for me to attempt those methods. Cheers,
Hi Henry,
Sorry about that, but it looks like a no-go, unless you order the download version!
If you read the previous version of this post, I must apologise for my utter stupidity I was trying to install the route from Disk 2!! It turns out that the SVR is also protected by SecuRom and one of the procedures, as detailed in my previous post, should be actioned.
The only way to get either route, from its CD/s, into Win 10 would be to install them under an earlier OS, then backup all the files so that they can be copied over to Win 10, but note that SVR also has two Registry entries. They are used when the update is applied, but I don't know if they are used while running the route. I don't know if WSR uses any Registry entries.
