Railroad tycoon

Post by anamorph »

Just thought I'd ask what the thoughts on this game are:

I found my old PS1 version of this game and put it on.......

I remember making a bit of cash doing London-Brighton and Straight Routes in England, But could never make any cash in Scotland even on an edinburgh-glasgow route, cos apparently the developers think the whole landscape up here is mountainous.....

As for America........Trains kept getting robbed

Wots the PC version like?

The PC version is Excellent with a capital E! If you like the PS1 version then you'll definitely like the PC version.

I hgaven't played it for ages now, due no less to my addiction to Microsoft Train Simulator allmost 2 years ago now.

Version 2 is coming out, there are screenshots on Train-Sim.com. It looks nice, but it still has Thalys Power Cars pulling grain wagons and so on. I haven't played RRT1 much since I got MSTS either. I liked Sandbox mode.

Railroad Tycoon 2? it's been out for months, almost years :)

Quite a different beast to RR1 - significantly harder, plenty challenging mind :)

I have RRT (somewhere!). I'd like to play the new version, as the main problem with the old one was the graphics (remember trains taking corners?) and the lack of signals (so when 2 trains met/overtook one would just stop dead!). Any idea of the release date for v3?

Anyone who is interested in buying RRT2 at the moment should try to get the Platinum Edition, which includes The Second Century add-on and a load of other scenarios.

Yep they definitely need to make it a bit more realistic. Good to hear v3 is on the way though, even if its not 100% realistic either!

Hope it has tunnels in.

The original RRT, the Sid Meier one, did have tunnels, but Poptop said they dropped them in RRT2, because given the scale of the maps, even the shortest tunnel would be about 10 miles long. I missed them too though :) .

Yep I played Sid Meier's too, it was pretty good. I thought with all those mountains tunnels might come in useful in RRT2 (oh and the shortest tunnel you could build in RRT1 was 5 scale miles!). Think the next one should have some you placing signals though, like in Transport Tycoon, and give you more control over track layout etc.
