London South East :: GOLD Edition

I've looked at this route over at Making Tracks and been considering buying it, but I would like to hear a bit from others first. It's an old route but the few screen shots I've been able to find have looked good. Is there a route map aviable? Can't find much at the Making Tracks page. Anyone else here who use this route and could tell me a bit about it?

It is indeed old, but it's one of my favourite routes. There's a lot of track to explore and being a Making Tracks route, there's a lot of rolling stock that comes with it.
There is a route map in the booklet that came with the boxed copy of the route. I am unable to upload a pic of it at this time, but hopefully someone else with the route could do so.

The gold edition contains all the patches plus it's on a DVD
Main terminus stations = Charing Cross, Cannon street, London bridge
Central Division
London bridge to Crystal Palace and Norwood junction via Forest Hill
East Croydon to East Grindstead and Uckfield.
East Croydon to Redhill ( including the Quarry line )
Purley to Smitham( now Coulsdon town ) and Caterham
Redhill to Tonbridge.
Eastern Divsion
London Bridge to Orpington including Grove park to Bromley North.
Orpington to Tonbridge.
Tonbridge to Eridge via Tunbride Wells West
Depots and Sidings included on the above routes.
Good selection of activitys included, plus more activitys on UKTS
Positive side.
Intensive use of custom objects and quality scenery. Even to this day, i notice new scenery!
Excellent quality stock for the EMUs, Locos and Coaches/Wagons.
Huge route mileage.
Negative side.
The gradients are completely wrong. Polhill and Sevenoaks summits appear reversed?
The Scenery can be a bit sparse in places, also outer london is too green!
There are too many positives over one or two negatives. This route is well worth the price!
Thanks

Hi,
It is certainly one that I can recommend - some of the scenery is fairly simple but it is very well produced and well worth the money.

Stephen

Hi
It's one of the best Southern Region commercial routes made,it has Charing Cross, Cannon St,Holborn, London Bridge, also the Dartford Loop.
It goes as far as Seavenoaks via Hither Green,Redhill, via Norwood Junction and East Croydon and the Redhill avoiding line,theTonbridge-Redhill line. Also the Oxted route and the line to East Grinstead,in other words virtualy the whole of the South Eastern Suburban area of the old Southern Region.
Stock included,Emu's 4 Cig, 4Cep,4Vep,2&4 Epb, class 414,4TC,Railair 4Veg,classes 201\205\207 DMU,s class 33 and 71 locomotives in BR Blue and Green,MLV as used on Dover Boat trains, most of the stock comes in BR Green,Blue and Blue\Grey.and some freight stock
Almost worth the cost just for the stock alone.

I was the first to reply to this thread, however my post needs approval. Sorry if my waiting post has the same information that has already been given!
Mike
I don't think Holborn station is included, also the dartford loop ends at Lee station( half mile from Hither Green). Plus the route via Orpington goes beyond Sevenoaks, to Tonbridge where it joins up with the Redhill line( the old road) as you mentioned. Then on to Tunbridge wells and Eridge via Tunbridge wells west.
Thanks

The old "City Thameslink" station is there( was it Ludgate hill station ?), No tracks though. I found that station by chance in RE. Because of that, i had a feeling Blackfriars and Holborn Viaduct station was going to be included, but didn't make the final release of the route.
Thanks

Sounds like a good route, then. Are there any possibilities to run long(-ish) distance trains in this route, or is it strictly stopping commuter trains?

Hi Bonan, despite having the original Route, I've just bought the Gold Edition and will see if there is much difference
between them later on.
The original Route had two starting points Charing Cross and Cannon Street in London and they of course went
through London Bridge where it split.
One branch went onto East Croydon with a side branch to Crystal Palace, the main Route went through East Croydon and
on to Redhill.
There is a side branch after East Croydon which went to Oxted and then later there is a branch line to East Grinstead
before the line continued to Uckfield.
Another line after Purley went to Caterham and another line went from Redill eastwards to Tonbridge, whilst another
went after Ashurst over to Tunbridge Wells.
The other main branch after London Bridge covered the run to Tunbridge Wells through Tonbridge with a side branch
to Bromley North.
There is over 422 miles of track covered on the Route and whilst most are Commuter runs, I must assume that there are a
few Freight Activities that have been created for it.

The main difference between the original and this is that it contains all the patches issued originally to make it easier for new users. It was produced as a result of the previous distribution agreement ending and self publishing made more sense I believe.
No extra track is included as far as I am aware.

You can run fast trains to Dover from Charing Cross, which would have stopped at Waterloo East and London Bridge then fast to Tonbridge, also fast Hastings Line Deisels from Cannon Street.Hasting Line Trains always had special narrow stock as the tunnels weren't aide enough to take normal stock in steam days some loco's had narrow cabs, and Maunsell made special narrow coaches for the route.
Also cross country trains from just before Slade Green on the line that comes in from Victoria( note it is just a short section) and again at Redhill they would run between there and Tunbridge Wells on through trains to Ramsgate( Note Ramsgate note included )they would mainly be Class 37\47 hauled trains, and if you like steam you can use nearly all the SR steam loco's in the Library, just run them with the Green Stock.
