I feel we are flogging a dead horse with this subject. It has been covered in another thread last week.Feeling were running high about it at one point because of the safety aspect of it. There are a lot of railway staff who comes on this site, so the least said about it now the better. Therefore I think it should be dropped.

I have been in the cab of a 421, 411, 423, 442, 455, 155, 150, 158, 33, 73, 08, 101, 170. This was all done whilst the trains were out of service, so no safety rules were broken, and i always had the driver, or depot supervisor's permission to go up and have a look.
I have been on the Footplate of, a standard 5, merchant navy 35005 {Canadian Pacific}, west country {34016 Bodmin} {both rebuilt}, Flying Scotsman {4472}, Taw Valley {dont know the number}.
Again, all above board

I've been on quite a few footplates, and I've been in a couple of diesel cabs too. Sounds good but you must realise they were all static displays except for one GWR steamer which had raised to light steam to show members of the public how hot a footplate could be.
My daughter however has not only ridden on the footplate of a kettle, she got to blow the whistle, release the brakes and help stop under the bowser when they topped up the tender! And to think after she climbed up, I refused to join them because I wanted to get a photo of her on the passing loop! What a total eejit I was!

The NRM loco you were referring to wasn't the 1829 Shutt End Colliery 0-4-0 Agenoria was it? Proably about the time you did your apprenticeship?GavinW wrote:Been in lots of cabs, some good runs - one in blizzard conditions north of Edinburgh on an HST one night. And driven a NRM loco on the main line when it was in service.
