MEP Broad St Shuttle

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with this activity, on the return journey I get stuck at a red signal half a mile north of Finsbury Park, I am on time at this point. Eventually if I wait long enough (around 25 minutes) the sim freezes and has to be exited via task manager. I have tried the MSTS shuffle but this has no effect.
I've tried running the activity through in Activity Editor and all seems OK.

I have to say I'm rather enjoying driving the DMUs on this route, takes me right back to my childhood sitting behind the drivers cab (BR Green days). I was always fascinated by the gear changes and the way the driver used the vacuum brake a little bit at a time on the station approaches with that characteristic hiss. The MEP team have done a great job in replicating this.

Regards,

Andy.

No previous problems have been recorded with this activity. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has the same problem.

Glad you are otherwise enjoying the DMU's. Many hours of tweaking have gone into the performance of these.

Hello Mick/Cambrian06,I think I had the same problem,at least in so much as getting the Red,but I didn't wait anywhere near 25 mins, more like 10 mins as I had to go out.I will run the Act again at some point as I do not like not finishing, but I'm having much to much fun running around the northern end.I must agree about the Dmu braking, you've got it spot on,the brakes are ALWAYS a let down on the other Dmu's,dropping the pressure much to quickly.
Let me say a massive thank you to yourself and everyone else associated with mep,now I've said enough,I'm off to take charge of "City of Truro"and do a Rail tour Cheers Roger :D :D :D :D

Hi Gentlemen,
I'd just like to record the fact that I had no trouble with reds not clearing, although I was about 2mins 30secs late arriving back at Broad Street :(

Like Andy, I used to like sitting just behind the driver (whenever I could!) on my regular trips between Derby and Nottingham :)

Cheers,
Ged

Hi All,

My failed attempt with this activity included a save at Bowes Park and I'm wondering if this could be a contributing factor ( one of those inexplicable MSTS oddities maybe). I haven't had chance to run the activity through again without saving yet, I'll report back when I have.

regards,

Andy.

2.5 minutes late arriving back at Broad St is about right.

Thanks Mick, that's a relief!!

I wouldn't think so, Andy. I, too, took a save at Bowes Park after I'd changed cabs in the "bay". But, being MSTS, you never know :o

Ged

Andy,

Have you been tabbing through any red signals? You should only tab if you are prompted in the briefing or via a message in the SIM.

Just as an add on :- once again this activity failed on the approach to Finsbury Park, held at Red for 20 mins before I called it a day,I have made NO Saves, don't know if that helps at all. :x :x roger :x :x

Hi all,

I've now run this activity without a save and everything was fine. The two previous failed attempts had both had a save at Bowes Park with the train in the siding and after changing ends. I'm wondering if the timing of the save is relevant with regard to the position of the service you end up following at the time of the save.

Regards ,

Andy.

Hi all,

I had no trouble completing this activity without making any saves - I was only about 1.25 mins late arriving back at Broad Street. However, like Andy, having changed driving cabs at Bowes Park Bay I then made a save. When I reloaded the signal failed to clear when the preceding train had cleared the section. Also the oncoming Class 31 train was permanently held in the station. I think the answer is not to make a save in this area - one of MSTS's peculiarities which we all love and hate.

Mick, 1st Gen DMU's are one of my favourites and the way you have modified their driving is really superb!!
To add to what everyone has said - a fantastic route!!

Regards,

Stephen

Although MSTS has many pecularities, I believe this is more due to the configuration of the individual PC.
I have just restored from the Bowes Park save I took yesterday and everything worked correctly. Thinking it may have been because I ran up to the signal on my previous restores, I remained at the end of the bay for another run ... and it still worked OK! In order to compare timings, these are mine :
17:36:59 Restore from save - Oil tanker train passing (down)
17:42:00 Passed by DMU (destination Gordon Hill?) (down)
17:43:57 Class 31 + 6 coaches (down)
17:45:50 DMU (destination Moorgate) (up)
17:47:50 Signal clears for access to Bowes Park station.

Hoping this may help :)
Cheers,
Ged

Hello Art,I've just finished this run after failing on a few previous attempts.
Ran Broad street to Bowes park ensuring not to leave any Stops early, stopped at BP,unloaded the Passengers and pulled into loop ensuring I tripped RP,stopped, engaged Neutral, swapped ends and waited (in Neutral),Signal went Amber, entered Bowes Park station.Left on time Amber showing, encountered a red on approach to Ally Pally which cleared before I got to it,did Station Stop, proceeded through double Amber to Hornsey (1 amber)Arrived Harringay on time (double amber)which turned green before departure.Finsbury Park on time (green)but arrived Canonbury 1 min late.Held by a Red before Dalston Jnc (4 mins late)Green aspect showing at time of departure, though now 5 mins late at Haggerston,Green at Shoreditch arrived at Broad Street (though I'm not sure where I made the time up)only 2 mins late. :D I didn't think I'd ever get this one done !!!!!!!!!!
