Changing textures

Post by MattT93 »

Hey Guys, im looking to change a texture on the roof of a train to one that i have modified for my use but cant work out how to do it :(

The train is a 3 coach train and i would like to modify the middle car roof as it currently has two stripes that should be only present on the driving coaches...

I have modified the texture and created the a new one for the middle car but cant work out how to get it to show..

Any help would in achieving this would be much appreciated..

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Matt,
It depends on if all coaches use the same textures; if the texture you've changed is only used by the centre coach it could be easier.
I suggest you post the model you're reskinning (UKTS File ID if possible), then we'll be able to help more :)

Cheers,

it is the arriva class 175 file id 25038. it does have a middle roof texture but in shape viewer and the sim it dont use this file.

ive copied the roof texture, modified it and renamed now just trying to get it to use this one on the middle car instead of the other one but cant work out how to achieve this...

HI Matt,
If you mean the light coloured strip over the doors at one end of the middle coach, you don't need to change any textures because there is already an unused roofmid.ace file!
Using Shape File Manager, uncompress the 175arrivaMID-3.s file, open with WordPad (within Shape File Manager); search for the ace files using the Find function (they are all together), scroll down to roof.ace and change it to roofmid.ace then save the file. Quit WordPad and recompress the file.

If you have created your own texture file, I hope it is called something different to roof.ace! If so, use the above procedure and change roof.ace to the name of your file.

Thanks for that Ged i have now managed to sort it out..

Next Question..

How do i animate the windscreen wipers? I can see that there is an option on there but no idea about how to achieve it?

Hi Matt,
I'm sorry but I can't answer that, except to say that I believe windscreen wipers can only be animated in the external view, ie you won't see them move when you're in the cab.

No worries thanks for confirming what i thought! Can't have it all. I suppose that would be a big ask back when msts was new out lol

Hopefully someone else can point me in the right direction of how to achieve animating them for external view :)

The wipers can only be animated in the original modelling program and then only if you have the source files.
