Problem with MEP Activity

Post by welshdragon »

Hello All.

I have been running the Lincoln Parcels Activity and all was going well until I tried to load a saved activity. I have never had a problem with any activity on any route as follows : Activity loads up, clear the Activity Operations Notebook by pressing FII key or clicking on thr X top right and I am in the cab, engine running, I can open and close the throttle, clear and replace F5 display, #2 view, #3 view, but the train is stationary both cab and head-out view the only difference with head-out view is complete silence.

I have run the next activity - Peterborough Engineering, which I would think is more demanding as it is dark and quite a lot of initial traffic without any problems.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Regards
Alan

Hi Alan,

I can't offer any suggestions but I can confirm I've had the same problem with this activity. In addition to the symptoms that you describe I find that when reloaded after a save the train (but not the loco) is missing it's wheels. I've saved and reloaded other activities on the route without any problem so it seems to be an issue with this particular activity.

Regards,
Andy.

I've just tried detaching the train at the start of this activity and running a short distance "light engine" and then saving. It reloaded and ran OK so it seems that the problem might be related to an item of stock in the player train.

Andy.

Hi,
May I concur with everything you gentlemen have said and add that the Current Speed & Projected Speed in the <F4> display are shown as 1.$ mph; also that all external sounds are missing, not only from this consist, but passing AI as well. I have seen the 1.$ mph reported before, but it was a long time ago!!

Cheers,
Ged

EDIT : Additional information :
1. If the save is taken while the train is moving, when it's restored, the train is stationary.
2. I've found that, in one very short test, removing the MEP-MK1_TC vehicles from the consist cures the problem - but further tests are required!
3. Route-Riter doesn't like consists with ~ as the first character!!

Thanks Gents,

At least I am not alone. I will try and experiment with the consist as suggested by Ged.

Hi everyone

I think you will find the problem in MEP-MK1-TC-BG.WAG.

On line 45 there is a stray ( 26 ). Take this out and I think all is good.

Hi Martin,

Spot on, I have just run, saved and reloaded the activity after removing the ( 26 ) and as you say it cures the problem.

Amazing what chaos a number and a pair of brackets will cause. :D

What I can't understand is why MSTS doesn't 'complain' initially when running this consist, only when reactivating a save.

I'll add it to my little (actually, not so little) list of things about MSTS that I don't understand.

Hi Martin, this has happened to me when using a Smoke Brakevan which is an .eng file and has on the line Type ( Engine ),
this loads o.k. at the start but fails when loading any saves.
This caused by MSTS looking for a .wag file and only finding an .eng file, I make certain changes to the Smoke Brakevan file
and the consist and try the Activity again, then I can save and reload without any problems.

Just as big a mystery is how this got into the upload file. It is not present in either of my master copies of the route. Oh Well!
