Just got my copy of MSTS 1, question on raildriver.

Does anyone else have a raildriver and also run TS2013? Just wondering what is needed to change back and forth between how raildriver's info gets loaded so I can continue to play both of these games. It took forever for me to tweak raildriver to work with TS2013 and I don't want to mess that up...:P But I just got MSTS because of my route envy, and want to use it on MSTS as well. This will be in windows 7-64 environment.

Hi,

I don't have Raildriver, but I suspect it would be set up to operate like other input devices, with a mapping file, which is what I think you are referring to for tweaks to get it going with TS2013. One big difference between TS2013 and MSTS is the commands for 'A' and 'D' controlling the throttle, which is that they are reversed. Most of the other commands are mapped to the the same keys, showing the Kuju design heritage. If it simply a case of swapping config files, then I am sure that you should be able to do this with a simple batch file.

Mike Simpson's Route Riter contains a suit of commands for altering MSTS .ENG files to operate with RailDriver.

Hope this helps,

Regards

RailDriver can be used with windows XP but not with Vista, 7 or 8.

Have you considered using Open Rails which is fully compatible with RailDriver?

Yes funny you should ask, I found that MSTS can not support raildriver in windows 7. I did download openrails.....but have not yet tried the rail driver with it. I really like the routes I have tried so far...but really miss being able to look around with mouse look in cab.

So , which program is the problem? Is it MSTS, Raildriver or Windows 7? Think about it, two 32 bit programs running under a 64 bit OS.

Everything would probably be fine if you were running the 32 bit WIndows 7.

I think that we are dealing with Microsoft's failure to support legacy 32 bit programs under a 64 bit system. WIndows 7 has Home Premium and Pro versions, but , as I found out when I first
bought Windows 7 Home Premium, Microsoft had excluded support for 32 bit legacy software on the 64 bit version, and usually the installer would fail to run.

Whichever way you think about this, it is the failure of the OS to support legacy software, not the other way round, after all, what came first and works fine in 32 bit systems??

Regards

I've not encountered any 32bit installers etc that have failed to run with W7 Home Premium 64bit (apart from those that come with x86 and x64 versions and detect whether they should/should not work).

The only issues I've had were more related to 16bit installers that have no compatibility with 64bit versions of Windows.

RailDriver has never been able to interface direct with MSTS and read the necessary information. Early use with XP was really a "work-around" with RailDriver reading data from the HUD messages on the screen and interpreting and using these. Not a very efficent arrangement.

For some reason it is not possible for RailDriver to read this screen information in VISTA and later versions of Windows.

I have always wanted to use RailDriver with the sim but delayed purchasing one because of this. Then Open Rails came along which has a built-in direct interface with RaidDriver and I have purchased one and am happily using it.
