Have I got the right Java installed?

When I go in the DOS box and type 'Java -version set' I get Java not recognised.
When I type 'set java_home' I get 'program files\java\jre7'

Still the Activity Changer can't find it, I must be doing something wrong somewhere.

Hi

You need the Java runtime environmwnt (JRE) rather than the sdk
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

is a good place to start.

Hi,
jre stands for Java Runtime Environment - it's all you need if you're not developing programs. The latest version is 6u25.

Cheers,
Ged

EDIT : I've just discovered that, using the link supplied by Geoffrey, the latest version is 7u21, which would seem to be a later version than the one i quoted - Sorry

I sent another email to the the author of the program with a copy of my system config, I am hoping he might be able to throw some light on why I can't get AC to work, this was a few days ago but had no reply yet. :(

YES! :D

Got it working, it was bugging me so much I re-read all the posts and searched on Google, then I found the bit where it said, "Even though you have Java installed you get the error message in the Dos box."
I got to the part that instructed me to set the path in the 'System folder' through 'Control Panel' I did this, went on AC and it opened up.
So that was my problem, Java was installed properly in the right place but the path needed setting, having said and done all that wouldn't you think the Java install program would do that instead of having people struggle to find the answer.

The Java install program normally does do that, but not sure why it didn't on your computer.

Glad you got it working.

Hi Dan,

It installed it in the right place but for some reason the program didn't know it was there. When I first Googled for an answer it seems a lot of others have/had the same problem with their programs (not AC or MSTS related) but other programs not finding Java.

I even sent an email to Java asking why it was not just me but other have this problem but I got no reply.
Any way it is sorted now thankfully so all is well, fingers crossed. :)

Which exactly replicates the advice I gave on page 1 & 2 of this thread and Pete (Site Admin) gave on page 3. The information was right there all along.
Kindest regards
