North West England V2 COMPLAINT!

Post by Col1948 »

As the title of the thread says, this is a complaint.

I purchased the CD from the store, it arrived this morning and I installed it as per instructions in the order it says in the readme.

I go to try it out with a little test run... No chance, file so and so missing!

Found the file in another route, try again... No chance another file missing!

This went on for ages, I have been copying and pasting files all morning and still doing it, why do you sell a CD that isn't complete?
I didn't see where it said, 'If you buy this you won't be able to run it because there are a lot of files missing, and if you want to spend a few hours finding and installing them then this is for you.'

Am I annoyed? You bet I am.

What if someone bought it who isn't in to looking in the program and finding the files to copy and paste in to the correct folder, what do they do, put it down to experience and throw it in the bin, and think of this they will be put off buying anything from the store again.

I could try to help you by recommending a few things. The CDs work out of the box so something is clearly wrong most likely with permissions on your PC. However, given your attitude I would refer you to support@atomic-systems.com for help since I have better things to do today.
Kindest regards

Given my attitude?

Well wouldn't you be slightly annoyed if you put the CD in and followed the instructions only to find after 3-4 hours you are still hunting down files to make it work?

The CD is version 2.2 so obviously there must be some difference to the earlier versions available in the download section.
Every time I insert another file it stops again asking for another one, it is soul destroying.

I do appreciate the time and effort people put in to making these things but if it is up for sale then surely you would expect it to work.

Hi
Seeing as this disc dates back to the mid 2000's if there was any thing wrong there would be a lot more complaints than just yours,
Can you tell us what operating system that you have, because in vista and windows MSTS has to installed differently than to earlier operating systems.
Could you give us a clue of what error messages you are getting, being civil instead of ranting you are more likely to get help, but with your present attitude your best bet is to get in touch with the support team.

If you have windows 7 or vista then go to the steam4me web site it will give you the instructions on installing MSTS to these operating system,it will never or hardly ever work properly if installed to program files or program files (x86) you will get all sorts of error messages

I'm on Windows XP, and I uninstalled the route then tried a fresh install, again following the instruction as to what order to install the sections.
After the install was complete I tried to run the route, it started to load then stopped part way though asking for Enviro files, then I found the file elsewhere, but when I went to paste the file in the folder there was no other files in there, tried again then it stopped asking a certain Texture file, I found that then it stopped again asking for another.

So after the last episode I didn't fancy going through all that again, so if i'm doing something wrong then I am at a loss.

I have had MSTS running well till I tried this, I have the latest Bin, I have Xtracks, New Roads, and the update from Microsoft, Finescale, so I'm not sure if I need anything else, it doesn't say on the readme.

Are these missing files being found in the default routes? If so then there should be an installation batch file which will copy all of the files required into your route.

Being a very old route and mean old route, you might need these, magnetic platforms,in the old days you had to have them, also you need a newer T section dat which can be found on the main front page under msts quick picks

Look for Tsection once down loaded it goes into the global folder.

You Might need new roads file id 6254 and these as well magnetic platforms File ID1186,1187,1210,1211,

In way back then, these had to loaded first,it's only routes post 2010 that come with every thing in the them, you will also need bin patch to over come a MSTS bug the infamous white out.

In future if you are going to get old routes ask first as some of us have been using MSTS since 2002,when you had to learn how to do things for yourself
and another thing nearly all routes have a batch file you must rin this as it transfers items needed from the default routes.

Thanks, I have the latest bin, I also have East Coast, with the Leeds Loop, and the Cambrian loaded and they are fine, so will I still need those other files, if they run OK I mean?

Thanks again for the help.

Hi there,

Based on what little information has been posted; I'm wondering if this is a problem that MS introduced into some copies of Windows XP.

Can you go to your start menu and click on Run. Now type cmd and press enter.

You should now be in the command prompt.

Now type xcopy and press enter. What response do you get?

Please post the EXACT wording of the outcome and we can take it from there.

John
Is there a file "installme.bat" in the route main folder and, if so, did you run it?

Yes and Yes, I found most of the files in the default routes and also when the install was almost finished it ran the batch file, but I gave up looking for the missing files it went on for ever.
I have un-installed the route now waiting for further advice.

All those are commercial Routes which come with their own tracks and stock, the North West England is a community dvd which needs items copied from the default routes.

Hi Col
My Advice would be to completely uninstall msts and delete all the folders then reinstall it from the ground up then
install new roads, magnetic platforms and msts bin. Then install NWE. Also make shore you install the msts patch from http://msts.banal.net/
After that test it to make shore it works ok the install your other add ons. I know this may seem a pain but that's the way I have done it in the past.
Hope this helps Dave:)

P.S. make shore you install the msts patch from http://msts.banal.net/ first.
