Moderator review on my posts

Post by coolhand101 »

Hi
I cannot understand why my recent posts need to be reviewed by a moderator. I have over 500 posts and never had this problem before?

Thanks

See the posts in Site Admin. One or more of the trigger words for mechanism that refers posts to the moderators must have been present in your posts thus referring them to the moderators.

Hi

I don't understand why us more mature people on the MSTS side of the forum should be kept being referred to the moderators, because of some of the idiots on the Railworks\TS side of the the forum when we write some thing. It seems the usual thing these days with pc correctness the majority have to suffer for the actions of the minority.

I have had this done twice this. week and I don't know what the offending words are so that I could write it slightly different.

The words I think were suspect LMS,Britannia

Mike, I have just had a message that one of my posts has been similarly referred to a moderator. It is a simple reply to earlier posts and has nothing contentious in it.

I've noticed words that include Stallone's first name get starred out (I don't know why, nor do I care as it's not MSTS related, so no need to tell me, I only look at screenshots over there). I can't even even mention the name of my favourite diesel locos that ran out of St Pancras without it getting reviewed. I think another former coal hauling class of loco also falls foul.

It's a shame there's no forum specific spellchecker/wordchecker available as that would sort the problem.

In the meantime, I just hope whatever is going on over there (again, I don't care to know) is sorted soon so we can get back to writing posts without having to refer to a thesaurus!

Obviously (?) Bill Shankly's quote on football comes to mind!

"Some people believe MSTS is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

Personally I believe that someone has made a "hash" of this!

Has it really come to this. It's a sad state of affairs if MSTS users can't mention a particular class of locomotive or railway company without it being perceived as a potential attack on a few oversensitive users of another forum.
It would be an awful shame if long term members who have contributed so much to the MSTS community start to feel dissillusioned and withdraw their support.

Hi Andy,

It's more than that!! Even the last three letters of many words are being replaced by hashes - I had one of my posts 'amended' as such last week and couldn't understand it :o - just because they spell out a modeller's name. This is a rather ludicrous situation we find ourselves in!

However you view the situation, please do beware of tarring all those who take in interest in RW as opposed to MSTS with the same brush. Many of us are as frustrated as you are about the moderation. And some of us who now take an interest in RW either have spent more time with MSTS in the past, or still spend time with both RW and MSTS. It's far from being an 'us and them' situation :D

I don't think anyone is suggesting that there is a them and us situation between the sims and if my post gave that impression then I apologise. The point is that the many are being affected by the actions of the few and when we see well known and respected names expressing their frustration at not being able to submit perfectly reasonable posts without intervention then something must be wrong.
I'm not a major contributor to the forums and I've not been personally affected by this - yet, no doubt if I continue with my observations on the subject it won't be long before I am.
My understanding of the situation is that it has been caused by a few individual disputes, if that is the case then the message must be take the disputes somewhere else and leave everyone else to discuss train simming in a reasonable and constructive way.

Andy.

Unfortunately the dispute happened about two years ago and I think only really involved one person (no longer here) and the site itself. It is frustrating (as a RW and MSTS user) as it is doing no good to the train simming community, for everyone on all sides. I don't think there is a lot that can be done in the current circumstances, however.

The forum software needs an upgrade in my opinion.

Whether this is a UKTS issue or a phpbb issue I do not know, but the main issue I have at present is the overboard censoring of words such as previous ly.

The software needs to identify where the . appear as part of another word and then ignore the censoring.

Unless we get to grips with this, UKTS could potentially implode.

This (use of a certain word) has been simmering for some time, and has now caused bad feelings all round. I can not for the life of me understand how the use of three letters has become so explosive. It's difficult to see how using the word obviously could be seen as detrimental to anyone - unless something has passed me by! I have suffered myself from this just last week when I had the temerity to ask why words containing . were being amended with the use of the # sign, which resulted in me being threatened with the potential to be barred from the forums. Three of my posts were wiped even though the third only contained the quotation that now acts as my signature.

It had already become apparent to me that UKTS was changing and not merely because of the changing sim usage, and was a driver in my suggestion that I reduce my forum input. I shall watch this thread and others with "interest", and can only hope that common sense combined with compromise will be the final winner.

Alec

PS One far fetched thought is what happens when the next affronted person thumps the table and further combinations of letters become unacceptable?

It seems to be a sad fact of the modern world that some people now expect to go through life without ever being criticised in any way.
