Hi all,
Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on the BATS downloads required for the following LSE Acts please? I know BATS closed there website down sometime ago (Which isn't very helpful)
Here are the links to the Acts in question;
 | | | Redhill and Back [35232 bytes] - Redhill and Back.zip File ID: 15581 Date: 14 Nov 2006 - 524 Downloads |
|
 | | | The Final Run [24004 bytes] - The Final Run.zip File ID: 15666 Date: 01 Dec 2006 - 421 Downloads |
|
I really don't want to have to swap locos if I can help it??
Thanks in advance
Andy

It looks like the original locos were from the BATS Southern Region CD and you might be able to find a copy of that for sale somewhere, it you don't have it already. I think the other files are reskins which were hosted exclusively on the BATS site. They are no longer available.

Hi Andy
You can get the BATS Southern Region DVD from this site,it's still available on CD ordering page.the other reskined loco's you will have swap, both Danny and Dave have done some superb models, which are better than the BATS ones.

Thanks guys - I have the BATS Southern Region DVD already. I was just wondering where I can get the Reskins from? Especially the one of Croydon with the end of Southern Steam graffiti writing on the Smokebox door.
Cheers

Hi Andy,
Unfortunately, you can't get those reskins anywhere. There are several reskins available on trainsim.com, but these are of the SVR and LNER locos. There is only one which may be suitable for the 'Final Run' activity - it's the BATS "Demoware" pack of 50035 together with cabview, sounds and Mk1 coaches in blue/grey.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Andy
That is the problem when you down load very old activities, quite often the stock needed to run them is no longer available,so you have to be prepared to change stock items with suitable versions in the library, especially if you know that the company has folded, and the reskins have been withdrawn,Danny who is doing the new WC\BB for his South Eastern Route did the BATS ones as far as I know.

OK I'm going to kick off a can of worms here. Hopefully though Common Sense (a commodity in short supply nowadays) will prevail!
Does anyone have the reskins in question? ...and if so
Does the read me in the reskins prohibit freely sharing?
If not why could they not be uploaded here?
Many of the contributors to the BA site still contribute or have contributed here anyway.
These were freeware reskins of payware. That payware is still available from the publisher who is providing it to the above links. The publisher can lose NOTHING and gain added interest if these reskins were available.
In the Flight Sim community freeware reskins for just about every payware aircraft add-on are the norm.
As has been pointed out many of the BA models have been remade by others and reskinning of those to fit the activity OR rewriting the activity to include currently available models would solve the problem surely? Who would lose what exactly if this was done? The rewritten activity could be uploaded alongside the original so that those who've managed to keep the BA reskins can still use them and the activity could be enjoyed by newer members if the reskins cannot be rescued from obscurity?
We seem to have lost sight of the idea of sharing our efforts in a few threads recently? Most folk who upload here do so because they want others to enjoy their work. The few that didn't have withdrawn stuff but how many is that?

Hi Geoff,
Danny did most of the reskins for the BATS loco's,he is now making new loco's for WC and BB loco's which will be used in his new route.
I think maybe he could tell us if there is a reason he cannot release the BATS reskins he made. It's probably the old copywrite issue again

I did the activities and also the reskins. It's a long time since BATS' demise, but I vaguely recall that Kim Durose was "left" to wind-up BATS. I think this was also around the time that there were problems with Terry Thornton's stock on UKTS and a lot of Terry's work was also included with the BATS routes. I think the accepted conclusion was that BATS models/reskins could not be uploaded to UKTS.
Perhaps the Moderators could comment on this?

The BATs Route and Stockpacks were sold to First Class Simulations.
None of the contributors received a share of the proceeds and this is what caused the break up.
However they still receive royalties from First Class Simulations who are now the copywrite holders.
Permission to upload the reskins is therefore required from First Class Simulations
Anyone asking should remind First Class Simulations that the reskins could only increase their sales.

Ian's post confirms my suspicion. It seems odd that we're all tearing our hair out over these repaints when including a blank template for re-skinning has become the norm with many US add-ons and has been for ages with FSX commercial add-ons. Like I said "common sense" seems to be rarer than hen's teeth nowadays?

Well it was figurative! ...and I would point out that moving on is not always moving forward

. Fixing stuff is no longer considered in our "throw away world" sadly

Hi all,
I didn't mean to open a can of worms, but now we are on this subject. Here are my thoughts?
1. If Danny had some Input into the reskins and Activities (Acts posted onto UKTrainsim) Then surely he holds the Copyright and decision to upload to UKTS?
2. Why are these Act's on here for all to enjoy, if something is no longer available because of A, B, C???
I look forward to hearing the Moderators thoughts, as I would love to play an Act on a Route in the way it was created and with the Stock it was created with.
Best Wishes
Andy
