Train Store

Post by dforrest »

Can the author of this utility tell us whether the Setup program for the utility makes any changes to the MSTS configuration, or only installs the utility.

The setup program does not make any changes to MSTS. It only intalls the Train Store executable and the manual. When you run Train Store the first time it guides you through setting the parameters needed for Train Store. It does not make any changes to the contents of MSTS files.

Sounds great. Is it a similar thing to Route Control? I.e. can you only have one route installed at a time if they've been compressed, or can you choose how many routes are there?

You can have as many Routes 'In Use' as you want, when you want, although the fewer you have 'In Use' at any time, the less MSTS has to read up and deal with.

Train Store works down to Activity level, so you can set a Scenario where you have chosen 1 Activity from 1 Route 'In Use', the remaining Routes and Consists from your MSTS installation stay 'In Store'.

Scenarios can contain any combination of Routes and Activities from your MSTS installation. You can change from Scenario to Scenario, quickly. Ideal for exhibitions and demos?)

It does not compress anything. You do not need to prepare your Routes in any way.

The net effect is that when MSTS is running a simulation it is dealing with a configuration which only contains the files that are needed.

Sounds like the number 1 must have MSTS tool of 2003! Good job I downloaded it already... you could charge a fortune for this sort of thing! ;)
