Yeah and me mate. Just been making a few calculations and I don't reckon I exceed 250mb per day, if anything like that. But it's like banks, railway companies and others, they slip in these little things every now and again, just when the service is popular to catch people out. Remember the bank charges to ATM transactions? At certain banks it was costing you money to withdraw over the counter too!ThinLizzy wrote:Thats me and Dave Babb at least, i know we both use boradband, what a low blow by NTL![]()
<---------- to NTL
So much for broadband Britian. But by all accounts BT openworld has similar limits too...

Personally not bothered. Never going to D/l a Gb in 1 day, and anyway it says consistently.
Don't see why people downloading music / film / video should be allow to bolloxs it up for everyone else.
i don't believe you can use that much b/w every day without getting stuff thats is actually breaking copyright.

I agree. But what will annoy most people is the moving of goal posts, yet again. Mind you look at the industries that do it: Rail, insurance, banking, pensions, lawyers, estate agents, ISPs, builders, car makers, the government...how many U-turns there??...Energy companies, computer manufacturers....buffy500 wrote:Personally not bothered. All in the terms and conditions...Love those..shoot you if you break them, but most T&Cs give most companies carte blanche.
Mind you, you can just imagine the spotty oiks that how been constantly downloading stuff like there’s no tomorrow...like kids in a sweetshop with the owners out. And no doubt it’s illegal movies, software, non-stop game playing....24/7..I just with they would be honest about it in the first place tho...1gb limit from the start. But then everything has to be ‘a sell’ these days....relationships, jobs....war? Or am I just being too cynical!? he he
Broadband? What's that? Can I get one for old Mrs Miggins on the village crank-up exchange only she hates me when I start downloading stuff as her arthritic arms can't move fast enought to plug in the wires....
And as for this:
"The Coventry resident said the situation was particularly irritating as in his area NTL had a monopoly on broadband. "
I'm surprised a Coventry Resident managed all that without collapsing in a heap from nervous exhaustion - "irritating" and "monopoly" are extremely long words for someone from Cov. Which is what the locals call it. Can't quite manage the full word.

What really pisses me off is I've just upgraded to the 1MB service..to speed things up (obviously) as I'm forever downloading stuff from here, downloading patches and free add on's for my RPG's which can go over 100 mbs...so if you can download 1GB in a day...on a 1mb service it takes less than two hours...so what's the point in having a 1Mb service, in which case I'll go back to 600K or even 128K AND after all that in my last NTL bill ramming it down our throats that they were better than BT...well they still are and I'll stick with them but what a piss take

Right one thing, at least u have broadband
in my road and i say road because i know of people less than 10minutes walk away that have it, we cannot have NTL broad band.
This is due to the boxes and cables set up for our use. BB has been promised in my area for the last 2 years and when i quizzed an engineer, who fitted a perminant separate phone line in, so i can at least have 56k 24/7, he replied' I wouldnt hold your breath m8 it could be years'.
But cast your mind back to when BT first introduced BB, there were wll highlighted stories on TV programs such as the favorite one (Watch Dog) thats had irite Modem and adsl customers on being forced on to broadband? Any one remember?
So it dosent come as a shock to me that they are doing these kind of under hand methods, I know that BT have tried, without warning, to limit customers on there service. They did this by temperary cutting services and limiting amounts.
So what you read in an advert aint always what its cracked upto be and also i wouldnt worry too much about it as there are rumors going round about the stability of certain thing s any way so it could be all change soon neway!

Over here, T-Online recently put up the price of their T-DSL flat rate unlimited offering to 29 euro per month (from 25), but gave people the option of changing to a 23 euro per month rate limited to 5Gb per month.
However, banks are a different story. You should be proud of UK banks. Over here a current account incurs a monthly fee, pays no interest and, unless your balance is kept over 1500 euro, you get charged for all types of transactions, paying in and paying out. You can do things a bit cheaper by doing them online yourself, and if you go to the bank and collect your monthly statement, they don't charge the postage, but bank opening hours are like they used to be in the UK in the early 1970's, ie open late, close early and closed for lunch and all the weekend.

Ahh point taken on that one...but is the cost of living as high as it is in the UK...price of the average house over £100K...swings and roundabouts me thinksianm42 wrote:Over here, T-Online recently put up the price of their T-DSL flat rate unlimited offering to 29 euro per month (from 25), but gave people the option of changing to a 23 euro per month rate limited to 5Gb per month.

In Australia unlimited downloads are SKY-FRGGING-HIGH, and at the mo my family has to pay $60-70 per month (roughly 190 quid) for 1 gig of downloads PER MONTH, and this lot is complaining about 1 gig PER DAY?!?!?!

That's very interesting.ianm42 wrote:Down here in Bavaria you won't find any sort of dwelling for as little as £100k. Nearly everyone rents. Home ownership in Germany as a whole is a pretty low percentage. Mortgages and credit cards are two things that never seem to have caught on over here.
Perhaps it's a consequence of their history with periods of real poverty leading to a respect for money and consequent fear of debt handed down through the generations.
Or a consistant policy adopted by Government to maintain economic stability.
There's going to be a huge problem in this country if things don't change that makes the 80's look like a picnic

I think you'll find that your money conversion has gone a little wrong.
£190 is approximately $525.76
$65 is approximately £23.48
