New Class 37 Sounds

Post by 37714 »

If you don't mind, could anyone that has downloaded my 37 sounds give me a little feedback? :)

The sounds themselves were created back when i did the very first 37 cab, to give me a complete loco, but i have only recently decided to share them with the rest of you.

I've found that with most of the sounds i've downloaded they do not loop correctly, or are jumpy when increasing or decreasing the throttle. I thought that this must be to do with my sound setup. The 37 sounds work fine on my machine (and with my sounds setup), and i'm curious to find out if there are any looping problems with other people's sound setup.

Ta!

They are very good.

I think the horn is not from a class 37 though?!

Out of this world. I'm just in the process of applying it to the other 37 in my trainset folder. Having 'bashed' 37s for nearly 15 years I can certainly say that these are the most accurate yet, especially on full power.

Birdie (speakers on full volume).

Horn was sampled directly from a 37 :).

Thanks all, very kind words.

Yep, very nice - always good to have more than 1 set available for the same type, as I don't think all loco's sound the same, even if they should in theory!

Just for the record (and as you're looking for feedback) I have had a couple of looping problems - in particular when going up and down the throttle range (in external view) it goes silent for a bit and then comes back at the next sound level (missing one of the sound stages out, I think) - seems to have difficulty from about 20% throttle to about 35%ish.

This isn't meant as a whinge: as I say, it's a very worthwhile addition to the canon of MSTS noises!

Hrm. I was hoping these problems wouldn't arise. When increasing from 0% to 100% in outside view, do you get the straight through growl, that only plays on increase?

I was going to mention that a subwoofer makes a whole lot of difference :)

I, and my brother for that matter, won't be doing any other sound files. I decided to do these as i wasn't happy with the current 37 sounds not functioning properly with my machine, and the lack of that lovely growl.

I am a mad 37 fan, as some of you may have noticed, and therefore i have more enthusiasm for creating things if they have something to do with this class.

I have an .mp3 recording (poor quality, 350k reduced from a 9 meg .wav) of how the sounds should function, I'll mail the file if anyone would like to hear it. I tried uploading the file to my website, but it exceeded the max file size.

On that note, if anyone knows a good -free- web hosting service, that's better than 50megs.com, let me know :).

Excellent sounds from outside the cab. I love the growl. The sounds from inside the cab seem a bit quiet to me or am I just being fussy. Kevin. :o

I currently use the class 37 sounds that have a common sound folder and feature AI sounds also. If I upgrade to these latest sounds do I just have to paste them into the common sound folder and overwrite? I ask because I've done this and the sounds appear to be unchanged. Should I be doing something else as well?

Thanks in anticipation (a small village just outside Canterbury) Nick.

having had a cab ride with possible one of the loudest 37/4's of 1997, could barely make out the wonderful growl unless head was stuck out the cab window. As this driver was a man who loved 37's the Thrash was continuos even when departing a station. As 37's go it's best to hear them from the outside anyway as ive had 2 or 3 cab rides and as i say you can just barely makeout the growl which you cant even hear if you are in the radiator fan end.

Nick,

The installation instructions are in the readme file, if you follow those to the letter, everything should work out. Do not replace the sounds in the common folder.

If you still have trouble, e-mail me and i'll get back to you this evening. My e-mail addy can be found in the readme, i'm not at home at the moment so i can't give you very detailed instructions :).

I think the problem mentioned above about the sound skipping is because both the eng.sms and cab.sms files have a few lines where the .wav file is missing - the line just has "" with nothing between the quotes.

I noticed that after checking the installation with ConBuilder. It came back with a couple of hundred errors after I'd aliassed all my 37s to the one with these sounds installed.

Couldn't actually check in MSTS though as I still have a couple of activities that require rolling stock from a very busy place.
