Broken game

Sometimes I wish I hadn't bought CDs off UKTrainSim. I bought a CD Paddington 2 Penzance and after installing each section (Global, Route, Stock & Activities), the game can't get past the first loading screen. Even after deleting the GWR route the problem remains. Can't for the life of me work out how to get things back the way they were before I began installing the GWR route. What could I do?

Cheers~

Hi,
This is not an unusual problem, but it would make your life much easier if you thought 'where did I go wrong?' rather than 'where did UKTS go wrong?'.

These problems are usually experienced because MSTS needs to have the Microsoft game patches and the Bin patch applied for more recent addons to have a chance to start working correctly.

If you have alredy installed these, then you will find that the use of Trainstore is practically mandatory, because MSTS itself can't handle the clutter which big route installations impose on it's meagre system resources. Trainstore is a fairly neat solution to managing an MSTS installation with more than a couple of small addons. MSTS is an old program, but handled with a bit of care, it will deliver. You need to check through the beginnner installation stickies, and double check your installation against installation advice given , also available on Steam4me.

Regards

Hi ziggyshadowdust (?!),
I have purchased most of the UKTS CDs and can honestly say that not a single one has failed to run.

To add to Steve's (sdtrains) very good advice, it would be useful, to those on here who can help you, to know the specifications of the PC you are trying to run MSTS on.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ziggy???
In defence of UKTS and the community CD's, neither have I ever had a problem with one.
Try not to treat MSTS as you would a Console game. It is definitely not 'plug and Play'. Having said that as Steve says there are very few issues that can not be fixed with the right add-ons (most of which are freely available).
What are the requirements for running in the read me for Paddington 2 Penzance. Unfortunately I do not have the route either, :-? too modern for my interests.

Does the loading crash or does it just seem to be taking such a long time?

Good luck
Doug

Hi There,

What other routes do you have installed?

Often installing an older route after a newer one causes an old version of tsection.dat to be installed.

File ID: 13758 Date: 05 Jan 2012 - 25066 Downloads

is the solution.

Hi Ziggy.

This could be a Tsection problem. You could try downloading the latest one (v41) here:

If that doesn't work, come back and I'm sure someone here will try to help.

What do you mean too modern'?'

You mean to tell me that you've never taken up the challenge of driving the Cornish Riviera Express- steam of course, Paddington to Plymouth, that's a four hour run, topping up the tender from the water troughs as you go.!! :o :o

Not to mention the route beyond Plymouth that takes you over the river Tamar and Brunels masterpiece bridge. !!!!!

AND THEN driving past St Michaels Mount as you approach Penzance.!!

I admit the scenery is a bit sparse in places but it's GREAT.

You must get this route Doug.

regards,
Terry.

P.S. I've never had any trouble loading/installing routes from UKTS CD's either. :D

Hi Terry,
Fair point. :D
To explain my too modern comment.
In terms of MSTS Routes, I stop at the "Corporate Change" to Blue/Blue-Grey on British Railways. Which follows my '00' gauge modelling.
This helps to limit the amount of stock downloads/space required for MSTS.

As I understand it the route is based on modern image practice. Of course I can be corrected. 8)

Good luck
Doug

Hi Doug,
The diesels are Hymek,Western and Warships hardly modern and a lot of is semaphore signalled, the only reason I took it off was the sparsness of scenery compared with later routes it now shows it age

Has anyone ever tried to produce a sequence chart to work through the basic installation/errors, etc.; e.g.

1. MSTS Installed
2. Have you installed the MSTS update? Yes go to 4 No go to 3.
3. Install MSTS update - obtain from this location ????
4. Have you installed Trainstore? Yes go to 6 NO go to 5
5. Install Trainstore - obtain from this location ????
etc., etc.

This could be in a flow diagram or similar.

Have considered it but have always been diverted onto other things - anyone fancy doing it?

Alec

Well that fits in with my period which includes the end of steam.
With all respect to "dwjoy"?? (if He/She still follows the forums) with regard to the age of the release, there is plenty of content coming to lookforward to.
May be it (the route) is a candidate for up grade like was done to Glasgow Carlisle. I was so impressed with that, that I broke my rule and downloaded it . It is now a mini route to separate it from Every thing else.

Good luck
Doug

Hi Doug,
A few more thing's I've thought of that are great on the Padd2Penz route,

1. There is the Clifton suspension bridge to see on the route.( Brunel).

2. Box tunnel with the secret storage depot within.( Brunel ).

3. Laurie Dickerson ( God Rest his soul ) made some activities using slip coaches ( a GWR thing ) a new skill to learn !!!!

4. Bristol Temple Meads station.

5. Driving your train along the coast at Dawlish.

6. Is'nt there a loco workshop that you can drive into? Maybe at Swindon.

That'll do for starters. :D :D

come on Doug, dig deep,

regards,
Terry.

Hi Terry,
I may get the benefit of my premium membership and do some downloading. 8)
I see that a lot of the acts are steam era.

Thanks for the information. I did not follow the development and release of the route at the time hence my lack of knowledge.

Good luck
Doug
