My home pc has Win' XP. My work laptop has Win'98SE. The photo's that I've uploaded recently have been pretty big, but once the image has downloaded after clicking on the thumblink in the message, the image has resized itself to fit the screen. However, when clicking on the thumblink whilst on my work laptop the image does not resize and you have to scroll all around the screen to see it. Is this a feature of XP?

It possibly has to do with the protocols of the server on which the image is stored. I find quite a few images resize themselves to the Window size I happen to have IE at the time, but other images do not.
Offline my PC displays them at a fixed size so it is almost certainly web-related.
I think it's a good feature, should be used by more servers/webmasters.

Following on from what you just said Martin, I tried looking at them on my laptop(Win98se) via my home dialup and I still get the huge pictures so it can't be to do with the ISP. Oh well at least you can see all the minute details

That does not explain why, on my copy of IE6 the images from some websites will resize, and from others they won't. Surely there has to be a command from the server on which the image is stored as well?decapod wrote:It's a feature of IE6...
Tools Menu...
Internet Options ...
select the "Advanced" Tab
scroll down to Multimedia section...
uncheck the "Enable Automatic resize of images" option.

its a combination of ie6 and the html of the website....
if the webpage defines constraints as to the width of the page, either by saying resize to destop width or by saying this frame is x pixels wide then the image will resize to fit the width of the constraint.
If there is no constraint, i.e. when you click on an image and just the image loads or as in the case of this site then the page is allowed to exceed of the desktop by providing a scroll bar at the bottom then the image does not resize....
