Pretty much everything that works in MSTS under XP works fine under Vista or W7.

What error messages are you getting? What is the actual file you're trying to install.

Hope this makes sense and have used it for the msts on my XP for years but will not work on my Windows 7. Do not know why. Thanks

OK, but what have you done on your W7 machine?

I'm guessing (at work at lunch at the moment) that those are not default entries from the normal MSTS installation.

Therefore you need to find whatever installed those files and install that onto the W7 machine.

If you still have your XP machine; locate the files and copy them across.

Yes. that is what I have done, i copied them onto a CD and copied them into a file then copied them into the separate routes like I did with my XP. I have just put in the Great Eastern and Greater Eastern and the rail sounds are there, so where they came from I do not know. Will let you know what happens next as it seems strange. Thanks

Hi glenwood4

The sounds in question are Railwaves Enhanced Track Audio files.
Place the ttype.dat file in any `route` folder with which you want to have the track sounds.
Place the .sms and .wav files in the MSTS/Sound folder.

Any original ttype.dat file in any route must be renamed ttypeoriginal.dat before using the above Railwaves file.
This ensures that if you want to replace the original sounds you will have the backup of the original ttype.dat.

If you want to extend or supplement the sounds with other track sounds, this is easily achieved.

ttype.dat

SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0t1t______

TrackType ( "Default" "uksteamtrack0In.sms" "uksteamtrack0Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Supported" "raeurotrack1in.sms" "raeurotrack1ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wood Supported" "uksteamtrack2in.sms" "uksteamtrack2in.sms" )
TrackType ( "In Tunnel" "jaSteamTrack3in.sms" "jaSteamTrack3ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Steel Bridge" "raeurotrack4in.sms" "raeurotrack4ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Girder Bridge" "raeurotrack5in.sms" "raeurotrack5ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Under Bridge" "jaSteamTrack6in.sms" "jaSteamTrack6ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Bridge" "raeurotrack7in.sms" "raeurotrack7ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Crossing Platform" "raeurotrack8in.sms" "raeurotrack8ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wooden Bridge" "raeurotrack9in.sms" "raeurotrack9ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Points" "jaSteamTrack10in.sms" "jasteamtrack10ex.sms" )

Just replace the .sms parameters for each of the sound TrackType objects.
There are many soundsets available for track sounds either commercial or freeware.
Not all routes have the full compliment of track sounds, this depends upon the route builder placing the sound objects in the route track work. There are very few with `Points` or `Crossing Platform` being fully implimented.
However, once the `sounds` have been installed and included in the ttype.dat file, then using the Route Editor, these can be placed on the track work as sound objects.

Kindest regards
Ray
