Steyning Line Steam Acts Recomendations?

Post by CrisGer »

I am hoping to see and study the Steyning Line and wanted to ask if anyone has suggestions of detailed activities with lots of stock as well as AI trains from the steam era if possible? thanks for any ideas. Much appreciated in advance.

Hi Cris,

Any of the activities in the liberary they all good, also there shouldn't be any modern activies for the route as it was closed in the 60's there might bee some early diesel ones though.
You might need some 1940/50's electrics as the line from Brighton to Portsmouth via Shoreham was electrified, but the Steyning line wasn't,the line branched of at Soreham

Thanks Michael, I found a nice act by Rob Pope, Sunny South Coast Excursion....as I just found out about the Steyning Route last week i have not had time to order the CD so i got the route from the library and am working at assembling as much of the SL Stock as I can from the library..it will be a good learning experience and I finally get to use the nice green coaching stock for the Southern region. So far most of the routes i have studied have been Midlands or northern...

I have some of the electrics already and will be sure to get the rest, Rob put in a good full stock list so i am hopeful in a few days i can try the route...i really like to try a new route (new for me) with a full activity so my first impression is as true to life as possible..and I have heard that the Steyning route is very nicely detailed which I really enjoy as well.

thanks again.

Hi Chris.
You will enjoy the Steyning route, which itself comes with quite a bunch of Southern region and Southern Railway
Locomotives and stock.
Another add on I fully recomend is the BATS Woking Basingstoke route which again has a fine selection of
BR/SR, Locomotives, with excellent cabviews and Sounds as well as excellent bullied and Pullman including Golden Arrow coaches as well as the Night Ferry stock, which will also be sutible for Dannys forthcoming South east route.
Cheers

Hi Cris,

The rouye is not that great as it only goes from Woking to Basingstoke,if you've got Dorset Coast you can check that section out,but the stock is what makes it worth buying,I can well recomend just for the stock alone.

The Steyning route contains some exclusive wagons.
You might find you need them for activities.

If you find that you need a wagon, post the name and I'll suggest a replacement or send you the wagon.

Hi Cris

I hate to do this to you but the Sunny South Express ran from the North East to Ramsgate via the West London line,it went no where near Brighton or the Steyning Line.

Yes Michael is absolutly correct, Sorry I did not make that clear. However, As well as the excellent stock that comes
with it, the sound and cab files are also worth having, Another CD worth getting is Chris Baileys East Lancs Railway
which again gas some excellent Locos both Steam and Diesel and again excellent sound and cab files, I personally use
both the BATS and ELR sound and cab files as default for my UK stuff where I can.

Hi Mike,
the activity i found that looked interesting is:
UKTS_17569_RDP_SunnySouthCoast_Excursion
'Sunny South Coast Excursion'
An activty for the Steyning route, CD version
WesternInvader (Rob Pope)
27/09/2007

he included a full stock list including the list of SL stock which I am finding subs for.

I am finding a lot but so far I have not located the King Arthur Class engine the act asks for:
( # King Arthur class SIR BORS DE GANIS )
i may try either UKTS_20524_DEE_KA_30773.zip or UKTS: 21257 N15 King Arthur Class 799 "Sir Ironside" which seem to have tenders for Southern unless anyone has a better suggestion.

and thanks Andy i will look into both of those CDs much appreciate the suggestions.
