Running MSTS from flash memory

Has anyone ever tried running MSTS from any form of flash memory? I spend most of my time working on a laptop, which has the usual laptop problem of a smaller hard drive. I was thinking about installing MSTS and all the add-ons onto a large Compact Flash card in a PCMCIA adapter and running it from there so that it doesn't take up any space on the hard drive. So I'm curious to find out if anyone has tried that before, or if anyone can foresee any possible issues with doing this, such as access speed or anything like that.

At least 1 of the UKTSlive show laptops is running a SSD (solid state drive) after the old drive failed. Matt did a post about this on the front page

There is no reason it won't work, plenty of people run from external drives.
Get the fastest card you can.

Hi
I think a Compact Flash card through the old PCMCIA drive might be a bit too slow.
Still if you have some old hardware gathering dust... give it a go.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. As the laptop in question only has USB 1.0 ports, I think an external HDD isn't really an option, so I'll give the CF card a go when I've managed to track a new one down with the right capacity at a reasonable price.
