Analog control pad which works with MSTS out of the box.

G’Day All,
I have come back to MSTS after a stint of Trainz (but that is another story), I never totally went away and I retained my MSTS installs.
The news I bring if not already brought up is, I have found an analog control pad which, with its own supplied software recognizes and works with MSTS out of the box (you do have to assign the commands) but it recognizes most of the MSTS commands straight up.
It is the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad G-UF13A, and is a USB connection.
If anyone is interested I can post a picture and setup screen shots if required.
The funny thing is I purchased it to use with Trainz, but never got around to using it so when I started using MSTS again I thought, lets give this a try and much to my surprise it worked. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I am using the latest bin patch.
Regards
Barrie

Hi,

This is an interesting diviersion away from Raildriver. My gamepad stays firmly in place for some old Flight SIms which I brush the dust off every once in a while. It's a matter of personal preference of course, and with relatively few controls in the electric and diesel cabs, a gamepad is a viable alternative. It's a different story for the Steam cab, which it would seem that Raildriver is not eminently suited, nor perhaps a Gamepad, so we are stuck with the keyboard until someone comesup with a 'Steam Cab Pad' .

Regards

G’Day, The game pad has 2 x analogue sticks (each has 2 axis so 4 actions each), 12 programmable buttons and a D-pad which has 8 directions, so there would just about be enough to do the job. I will take a couple of photos and post them as soon as I get a chance.

This is very interesting. Please post the information.

Is control of steam in addition to diesel and electric locos possible?

The MSTS controller referred to by steamsim appears to be intended for steam locos and is obviously quite a complex job, not suitable for construction except by relatively skilled model makers. A commercial version would NOT be cheap.

Oh, well. Back to the keyboard. No need to re-invent the steam engine. Yawn. Now, what was I doing with that bit of kit inTSM......
