I just want to say thanks to Clive for filling a another gap in the library :D
Just need a a rebuilt T9 and im a happy bunny thank you again.

Hi Andy

I absolutly mirror your comments, The USA tanks will fit nicely into the Southampton western docks portion of Rick Loaders
New Forest route.
Re the T9,I think you will find that Danny Gilbert is allready on the case, Found this on his S15 thread.

"Next up will be a T9 for the New Forest CD. The model is actually Cardean's but I've been asked to apply finishing touches."

Yes indeed, we are very lucky to have people like Clive, Danny,Rick and (Doc) Martin keeping the memories alive.

So thats two happy bunnies then. :P

If I remember rightly the USA Tanks didn't venture far away from Southampton Docks,they were very usuful there due to the sharp curves in the docks,probably the furthest they went was to Eastliegh for maintainence.

They did venture away during tours though.

And there was an infamous tour with a double header of USA tanks that ran to the Fawley branch, then onto Swanage and the truncated S&D line to Blandford forum. Though i can't be 100% if they hauled the train all the way.

One was based at Meldon Quarry near Okehampton to replace the rather elderley ex LSWR G6 0-6-0t

During WW2 they were seen nationwide. Some worked for the NCB and several worked on the Manchester Ship Canal System to provide some much needed extra motive power to shift the huge loads of the time. They even came with their own USATC Crews on the MSC lines and stayed in their USATC grey livery for the duration of their stay before being replaced by loaned Port of London Authority Locos. Others stayed on longer

One Numbered WD300 and named 'Frank S Ross' ended up at Longmoor- don't know about the livery but anyone for a Longmoor Blue one?

Two even ran shunting the Austin Motors Longbridge factory.

Hi, this has nothing to do with Dock Tanks, but where can I find a Crab 4MT model? I know there's a couple in BC1 but is there one in the File Library?

Hello everyone.
The 14 USA tanks 30061-30074 certainly spent their first sixteen years exclusivly in Southampton Docks until the arrival
of 14, 275HP Ruston Diesel shunters D2985-D2998 in 1962.
Apart from 30063 and 30068 which were scrapped by 1963, the remainder were split up, 30061 became DS233 Alocated to Redbridge works replacing 30199 which had earlier replaced the C14 77S.
30062 became DS234 going to Meldon Quarry and replacing the G6 DS682, 30066 became DS235 and 30074 became DS236,
These two locos were allocated to Lancing and Brighton Works replacing terriers but I am unsure which one went where.
That left 30064, 30067, 30069, 30071, 30072,( which became the Guildford shed pilot) and 30073 left in capital stock.
These could still be found either shunting in Eastleigh works or even Southampton Docks, As with the six departmental Locos, 30064 and 30073 were painted green.
30065 and 30070 lanquished at the end of the scrap road at Eastleigh shed for some considerable time before being wisked through the works, 30065 becoming DS237 "Maunsell" and 30070 DS238 "Wainright" both being sent to Ashford works.
As well documented these two locos were eventually withdrawn in 1967 and were towed away to South Wales for scrapping
only to get as far as Tonbridge after running hot bearings, only to be rescued and finding a safe home on the Kent and east
Sussex railway.
Both 30064 and 30072 are also preserved.

Earlier in this post you were asking about whether a T9 was being made, well by the winter of 1961/2 there were only 2 left,30120 and 30287, There was a preserved LSWR 4.4.0 563 was at Clapham Museum,along with 0-6-0T LB&SC 82 Boxhill and along with SECR 4-4-0 737.Clapham Museum was a old London Transport Tram Shed,

Meldon Quarry still had G6 D682 ex 30238, and Lancing Works had DS 680 EX L.B.S.C 654 A1 Tank lco.and DS 681 EX L.B.S.C 659 A1X Tank loco.
