Point sounds

Post by 47522 »

I have just bought the ETA (new track sounds)
From Railwaves in the readme it says
"Now you can add point sounds"
But i dose not explain how!
All it says is you can do this via route editor. :bad-words:
Is there anyone who can help me add point sounds please! As i don't have a clue how to do it.

Thanks
Regards
Matt

Ok i have looked around in route editor and found the sound regions selection and clicked on points and platforms ect.......
I then saved it and exited.
Is that it?

Hi

What you do is put the yellow marker on the track at one end of the point, making sure that the arrows are pointing at the rest of the point. Then you put another sound region at the other end of the point making sure that it points at the one you put down previously. That's it!

Unfortunately, yes. I wonder if it would be possible to develop a utility that does it automatically? Since it would be added to all points, the utility would not need to be selective. Anyone have any ideas?

If they are a purchased add on, how would it affect a route for distribution? Would those who download it also need to purchase the 'effect' too?

It would be a lot of effort to add a sound region to every set of points in some routes. Imagine doing it for Mid East?

John, as I understand it, the ttype.dat file provided in every route folder specifies which sounds are played in each sound region. Any route made available for free distribution with point sound regions added could include a custom ttype.dat and point sound wav files.

Or, if the point sound regions are included in the route but without a special ttype.dat and sound files included, the sounds could be added later as a separate freeware add-on. I know Stuart Williamson's UKSteamTrack Part 2 is a revised ttype.dat with sound files that already has point sound capability.

The "easy" part is the sound files and scripting, the hard part is adding the sound regions to the route. Thus my previous comment on a utility, which I do not have the smarts to even consider attempting.

I'd be willing to work with someone on this however, because I think the improvement in the MSTS driving experience through having proper point sounds would be truly remarkable.
