Re: S&D

Post by Tonysmedley »

I loaded S&D as a New Year present to myself but have run into problems.
A number of activities are not available using Train Store Easy mode, the "RUN" window remaining greyed out Assuming that this might be due to coupling incompatiblity as hinted in the documentation, I ran RouteRiter - and ran into trouble.
In trying to select rolling stock to check couplings in RR I get a lot of messages on the lines of
8P.s Did not uncompress
MR_3F.s Did not uncompress
TR_3.s Did not uncompress

If I OK these the program eventually stops. If I cannot use RR to check couplings I am faced with an impossible task looking through the hundreds of rolling stock items.

This has probably no connection with the S&D route but it has only occurred after I installed the route. - which looks excellent.

I've explored parts of it but some of stock seems to be giving trouble, hence no activities have been run.

The Bulleid Q's seem to be missing, so are some wagons Br_D017 woodmedium + other from this down load, which download are they from or are they missing from the stock list?

Just one thing there is great big viaduct on the east curve at Branksome!

Can I just say - this is EASILY the best route I have ever driven. All commercial and freeware routes included in that. It looks amazing (including compared to photos) and the difficulty of the climbs are so realistic - it realistically tests the locomotive you're driving to the limit.

My first run (still in progress) was a Black Five with eight on, from Bath Green Park. I managed to maintain about 25-30mph on the climb through the tunnels to Midford, but then started to struggle on the relentless slog to Radstock. Regained a bit during the station stop there, but then the 1 in 50 gradually eroded away the steam and water so what started as a steady pull at 18mph ended up with a stall in the cutting above Chilcompton station with pressure around 170lb and the water in the 'bottom nut'. Ten minutes dead stand and we were good to go but the struggle continued all the way through Binegar to Masbury (14mph, flat out with 190lb on the clock.) After that its linespeed and first valve all the way to Blandford whatever state the engine is in! Blandford was reached in approximately 1hr50m, so for 49 miles thats about...well its not very quick!

Sorry for spontaneously spouting about my first run but thats how much the S&D inspires me. Anyone who has read Peter Smith and Donald Beale's exploits will understand!

The author of the route should stand tall - this is a masterpiece.

Should these be in the downloads list too?
The GWR soundset (File ID 6481) and the Steam crew aliases (File ID 7706) are required.
from the instructions for the Class 2251 Multipack.

I am holding my fire until I see how others have got on, but the stock required is giving me a lot of hassle.
I have tried my hardest to download all the items on the stock list for the activities but there are still a lot of gaps according to RouteRiter and Activity Analysis.

Route writer came up with these missing items, I suspect there may be more but it's these which seem to stop every activity I try from working.
I've looked through the file index and can't find anything resembling them.

I have yet to download this route, but the BR_D017, etc. are wagons by Ian MacMillan. When I was installing them - for Dorset Coast if I remember correctly - I came across the odd anomaly as indicated by RR and eventually copied similar WAG files and then renamed them. Cheating I know but life is too short!!

Minimal help I suspect but . . . .

Fantastic route, contratulations to Clive, you've excelled yourself. The only critisim I can levy against the entire route is the use of american style telegraph poles round Templecote, but i am just a little bit OCD about them! LOL. Absolute gem of a route otherwise. One very odd thing though, when I had got the route installed and stable I had a quick look at the acts and saw a slow passenger train to Bornemouth with a 3MT and thought I'd change 82044 for the orriginal 3MT that I got Reg Furniss to do for the Burton Derby route years and years ago, No 82004, only to go back into the route to drive it to see that instructions ARE for 82004 anyway!!! how weird is that! :o

Hi Ged

That's where I thought they were but I still keep getting the error on starting up the Bath- Bomo Slow activity that says trains\trainset\BR_017_Wood_Medium_Open\BR_D017_Sp_U_Rocks.wag.There is no Br_017 directory.

Virtually every activity seemsto use them!

Paul

PS Found where they are now. One expects that .exe set ups would get everything sorted but it doesn't!

Now all the sounds and missing crews have got to be found, I don't think I'll get to Bath tonight!!!

Hi Clive

I've just completed the Pines Express activity from Bath to Bournemouth, arriving about 16 minutes late.

I feel exhausted after the struggles up (and down), but it seemed mostly up, and need to lie down and rest now.

Thanks for another fantastic route.

Mike
