I was pleased to discover the “Petit Train de la Rhune”, a metre gauge mountain rack line avaiable for download. However, it is missing a number of shape files without which it will crash.
They are of the form
‘z1t0-3 mstrt.s’ or similar.
I think they may be track shapes but can find no lead. There is no ReadMe with the route
Post Script. z tracks is a metre gauge MSTS track system which can be downloaded from http://www.hcl.li/schneeberg/downloadsen.html

Re: Petit Train de la Rhune
A lot of people have been disappointed that there is not an MSTS route up Snowdon on which to run the Snowdon locos available. It has been said that it is extremely difficult to create such a route in MSTS. However a comparable route does exist – le Petit Train de la Rhune.
La Rhune is a mountain at the western end of the Pyrenees that is not dissimilar in many ways to Snowdon. It is not quite as high but is relatively isolated from its closest neighbours, rises to a sharp peak and has a rack railway to the summit. However the railways are different. The La Rhune line is metre gauge and operated from overhead electric cables. It is unusual in being three phase, using two overhead wires and the track as the conductors. The locos are vey quaint. They have wooden bodies and two pantographs at each end, looking rather like a garden shed wearing antlers. The locos push two coaches at a time up the steep slopes.
The route does give quite a good impression of being a very steep railway, although at times the track has something of the appearance of a roller coaster compared with the real life looks. It should be possible to do a good imitation of Snowdon using the same techniques.
The route can be downloaded from
http://thuthuboutick.fr/agedormidi/ligne12.htm
You will also need to download Z tracks from
http://www.hcl.li/schneeberg/downloadsen.html they go into the Global Shapes folder.
The rolling stock is available from
http://ajtrainsim.free.fr/models/larhune/la_rhune.htm
As downloaded the loco does not have bin compatibility, so that you have to drive up hill in reverse and vice versa. It is worth creating a reverse cvf file to avoid this,. As it is you need to use the passenger view of the leading coach to see the route immediately ahead.
Try this little route - it’s fun and does not take up much space.

Its about 98% complete....but my enthusiasm to finish it has been destroyed by the not so nice comments that have been made about me by some members of the forum. Which is why I'm not seen around very often nowadays.

Re: Petit Train de la Rhune
I have to say that that is a great shame Doug.
I'm not normally one for steam/short routes etc; however I was looking forward to the Snowdon Mountain Railway - primarily as it is about the only way I'd get on the train - the cost of the real thing is extortionate in my opinion and walking up isn't exactly difficult

Doug,
Well, for me at least creating a Snowdon route would be impossible! I can well understand the frustrations that can arise whilst creating a tricky route - I have yet to complete one!
I for one would be gratified if you could bring it off.

What a fantastic little route!! Very picturesque!
And, Tony, I didn't find building the SMR route frustrating. Far from it...I found it enjoyable.
No promises...but one day I may feel up to publishing it.
