NVIDIA Geforce 4 64Mb Graphics Card
Hey all.
When i got my 64Mb graphics card i thought wopee, better graphics for msts, but alas msts seems to be the only one of my games that does not like the graphics card. Are there any known issues with my graphics card and or fixes?
Many Thanks

Judging by the amount of RAM i take it that ur GeForce 4 is from the MX range. No offence but ive said over the past 2 months about a dozen times that the MX Geforce cards are not as good as they make out. They are simply old graphics card technology run at faster speeds. Not long after the Gf4 MX cards came out, people quickly realised that they performed no better than the top range Gf2 cards. Thus getting even a Gf3 would be better off than buying a Gf4-MX card.
BTW, what is it that uve tried to do with MSTS, that u are disappointed with, graphically? Simply putting in a new card and starting a game wont make any difference. Have u altered any settings? have u switched on an effects that the graphics card does? The ability to run MSTS on a high spec machine doesnt really give the advantage of better graphics. Instead it allows for more scenery to be shown at once; higher FPS rates and less stuttering; higher ingame display resolutions; more texture and scenery effects like FSAA and Anisotrophic Filtering.

I agree with LucaZone, if your card is the Geforce 4 MX then it is only a Geforce 2 on steroids.
I got a Geforce 4 Ti4200 with 64 meg ram, and the difference over the Geforce 2 I had earlier is enormous. Running the 3DMark 2001se benchmark program, my rating went from around 1250 up to 7400.
You should also make sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia site, the ones on the CD with the card are usually well out of date.

no graphics card is too good! Check out the comparison below, of data taken off the nvidia site of the 2 graphics card specs::
GeForce4 MX :: 256-bit DDR Color | 1000 Million Polys/sec | 5.3GB/S bandwidth
GeForce2 GTS :: 128-bit DDR Colour | 800 Million Polys/sec | 5.3GB/s bandwidth
and a Geforce2 MX 400 :: 64-bit DDR Colour | 800 Million Polys/sec | 2.7GB/s bandwidth
(u sure u think this card is any good with MSTS?)
My card just about does MSTS as max
Geforce3 Ti500 :: 256-bit-bit DDR Colour | 3840 Million AntiAliased Polys/sec | 8.0GB/Sec bandwidth
and just to show, this is the top nVidia card spec ::
Geforce4 Ti4600 :: 256-bit-bit DDR Colour | 4800 Million AntiAliased Polys/sec | 10.4GB/Sec. bandwidth
GeForce4 MX :: 256-bit DDR Color | 1000 Million Polys/sec | 5.3GB/S bandwidth
GeForce2 GTS :: 128-bit DDR Colour | 800 Million Polys/sec | 5.3GB/s bandwidth

Just for the record I have this same graphics card and I have no problems with it at all, its made playing MSTS far more enjoyable
. Mind you this is probably because I have downloaded the latest drivers (my bro says the drivers that come with Windows XP gave him problems with Micro$oft games and it is because the Micro$oft drivers are not as good as the nvidia drivers).

Thanks for the reply guys.
The problem that i have is that the msts menu screen does not fill the whole screen ie black bands at the sides and bits cut off at top and bottom (change the settings i hear you cry) done that too, to no avail. Also when i go into the advanced video settings the screen flickers like crazy.
I do have the new drivers for the card but there are some specifically for win2000/xp ( i run 2000) which i have not installed yet. Is it worth installing these when all my other games are working brilliantly (JamesBond Nightfire, Battlefield 1942 etc).
Many thanks.

You refer to Geforce3 Ti500. I've looked around for some of these and have found Gainward Ti500's still available, but they are detailed as using the Ti-200 Chipset. Is this GPU you referred to?
