London & South East - Stock Query

Post by gswindale »

Ok,

So L&SE by MT was set roughly in the 70s with Blue/Grey stock.

It is my understanding that stock these days is mainly 465/466 Networkers, but what else runs along these lines in either modern or NSE time periods?

I'm no expert but some Mk1 EMU's were retained during the NSE period alongside Networkers and possibly Class 455's and 508's ran somewhere along those lines.

Hi Geoff,
There's two different questions there, really.

LSE is a semi fictional depiction of a segment of the SE network set in the 70's. Some other continental stock, such as Fourgons, is available if you search for it, usually from French sites.

The traffic in the later period NSE-modern was changed by the opening of the channel tunnel, following the demise of the former Golden Arrow and Night Ferry traffic, and consequential move away from using channel ports and ships forcing the closure of Dover Marine and Newhaven to rail served cross channel passenger and freight services, and more recently again by the St.Pancras link. It's really a picture of migrating traffic trends, the traffic is still there, if not greater, but it all goes by different means. Some of the original passenger services still run the same routes through Dover, eg Man of Kent, but the dash to the ferry ports by trains has all but gone, and Ashford International is now the focus for freight operations and the passenger services now originate at St.Pancras, rather than Waterloo.

The modern take on traffic is to some extent covered by MSTS routes 'The Tunnel' and the TGV add on, which comes with (I think) a longer version covering the same territory, namely the Tunnel, but these both need updating with the commencement of St.Pancras services and the new rolling stock.
