well not quite sure what ur asking, was bit confusing, but id be building friggin double decker trains! Surely that would ease train crowding an aweful lot in the UK. Im interested in solving that rather than running more trains.

My fav at the moment is obviously the TGV Duplex.

Whichever one my customers wanted, Providing there was a profit to be made.

If I had the combined wealth of the Sultan of Brunei and Bill Gates, money would be no object so I would build proper loco hauled engines and stock here in Britain regardless of whether anybody actually wanted to buy them or not. In fact if I had the blueprints I'd build a new fleet of Deltics and lease them out to TOC's as Thunderbirds units for when their "new" trains break.

I would try to get the Great Western and Thames Train's franchise's and re-introduce loco hauled trains..... And if the government tried to take it away from me I'd refuse to lease my trains out to my successor 8)

Id build or rebuild the 37's regear them for 100mph running and do a nightstar service. And this time there would be a nightstar service, loads of promises. EPS won and lost alot of enthusiasm over the Nightstar. I want to bring that enthusiasm back. **** VIAcanada for purchasing the stock id soon get it all back. WE BUILT IT WE WANT IT BACK. The 37/6's were so regeared but never really used except some of the test trains i think Dale will recall. If more than 12 37's were regeared it would be great to see the london penzance/glasgow/fort william and inverness sleeps making use of the nightstar. Maybe railtours could use the stock for these 3/4 day land cruisers saving mass hotel bills. Shame something built by us that was recently call a "HOTEL ON WHEELS" has to be snapped up and shipped 4000miles away. If i had the money id bring it all back and build more.

I'd build a fleet of replica Kings, Castles and Manors, a few sets of really nice Centenary stock with proper comfy seats, reading lights, acres of legroom and non-filthy bogs and have a flippin enjoyable train journey! Then when I'd got to the end I'd ride back again simply for the pleasure of it.

ovoiusly you have all misunderstood me, what i meant was if you were building an entirely new class of train from the ground up , not upgrading current/old ones.

If you take this as for example an alternate reality where British rail still exists or if you like the uk in 3 years time you are about to launch this new train for the use solely in the uk....

explain what spec YOUR train would be, if possible show us what it would look loike let us know how many coaches would be pulled at a time, tell us what sort is it...!

does this explain it...?

There were once double decker trains called 4DD. I think they are all in scrap now except 2 coaches which are preserved.

Cure overcrowding of nation, people being decapitated! :D Theres been a post or two on here before about the old SR double deck units. I think the suffered from being very cramped, unless you were under 5ft, and took longer to load/unload passengers at stations than longer trains of the same capacity, so took up more line capacity, something very valuable on today's overcrowded railways. Dont get me wrong, double deckers are a great idea, having expeienced them as far afield as China, but there are unsurmoutable problems which make them difficult to ude to thier full effect in the majority of the UK.

The TGV Duplex are also double-decked.

Can't get enough of those 'pedaloes'

I'd build something that ran on rails 7 feet apart and was painted chocholate and cream :P
Cheers
