I would say no.
It's best to write to the company to see if you can have a cab ride.
I've asked a few times and the answer is a straight no!
I'm on a Privalage rail pass and I wave that to the drivers but the answers are always a straight no

I once wrote to Freightliner for a cab pass from crewe to wentloog and mentioned that i already have a PTS certificate. They replied with a very good warming letter about the H&SE policy which cover most company's, and a diary from heavy haul. Saying that i managed a Birmingham ITL to NS cab ride with FNW when 37402 was on it a couple of years ago. To say atleast he wasn't short for a pint at the end of his shift.

What the hell is the matter with you people? Having an unauthorised person in the driving cab of a train is criminally negligent and would lead to demotion if not dismissal for the driver concerned, if he/she were observed to have someone in the cab. Train Companies do not issue driving cab passes any more because they cannot spare Traction Inspectors to accompany such people and they do not want their drivers at risk of being distracted and possibly passing a signal (SPAD) in error.
If doing their job properly makes them 'moany old gits' then you really ought to grow up before making such stupid postings and learn about real life. A real train is not a Microsoft Simulator train...

Dale does have a point there. We'd be risking alot of peoples lives doing these things. Ok so its the driver responsibilty, And YOU are his main responsibility. We who have done this, have so at our own risk. Its the same in a stationary loco unless at an organised event. Ok i admit there were a group of us who did a little competition called "How many bashers in a 37's cab" we managed 16 in one cab, the driver was laughing his head off. i got off first and alot of onlookers watched as the rest followed me.

Just to back up Dale, and what has been said:
Cab rides are no go for non-safety critical staff or safety critical staff without a cab pass. Unless a Traction inspector is in the cab.
It is not worth a while a driver considering such a move as not only is it criminally negligent, it's strictly against railway rules and a possible safety hazard. It would probably lead to instant dismissal..and there are plentry of spies about!
If if you are a safety critical member of staff WITH a cab pass the driver can still refuse and if you are allowed you expected not to distract him/her and keep a good look out. And you are only supposed to be there for a good reason: Learning the road, Pilot working etc..
So the only way TOCs can assist is to provide a Traction inspector. So unless it's for a very good reason you won't get one as they are not resourced for such things.

And since 11th September I doubt if any driver worth his salt would even want an unknown person sitting next to him. I think, if you managed to get a cab-ride before... do the same thing again to get another cab-ride, but just keep well quiet about it and respect the fact that the driver may just lose his job through doing you a massive favour.
Now... having said that, any chance of a cab-ride in a Eurostar going through the tunnel please Dale?

you lot should take a trip to france. We went in the summer. Me my brother and my dad were watching a mianline DMU start up at Vannes station. The conductor came out, led us across a working depot, and let us up in the train. We went to the cab with him, where the driver greeted us, and pulled the train onto the mainline. After a TGV had cleared, we went down the mainline and into the platform (we had to switch cabs) Great fun, and a treasured memory. I remember it better than the rest of the holiday-although it may be different if we had gone by the channel tunnel. Preserved lines are great too. I've been in the cab of a Pannier tank up and down the platform, a 20, 37 (EWS), 47 (freightliner) and a 50.
