Re: Steam4me access ????
By my reckoning 2,788,629 visits since October 2001 equates to just over 900 visits per day or 3 visits every 2 minutes.
Ample proof that Steam4me is more than a little popular!
Ruf
PS It would be interesting to see how UKTS compares?

Will the new site be accepting donations? I note that one person is paying all the bills.

Re: Steam4me access ????
Hi Ruf,
I just checked, February 2010 saw 209205 visits, so about 7,000 per day. January 2010 was 235987 and December 2009 was 223528.
That's based on the "visits" value from Google Analytics.
Glad to see that Steam4Me is back operational again!
Matt.

Re: Steam4me access ????
For those who might be interested I understand that there will be a "donation" facility in the new site. I for one will be making a donation at the earliest opportunity in recognition of the excellent work done by Yuri, and I urge those of a similar find to do the same.Tonysmedley wrote:Will the new site be accepting donations? I am pleased that the "visit" figures for UKTS are high, and I trust that this reflects the continuing interest in MSTS and the other Train Sims.NeutronIC wrote:Hi Ruf,

Re: Steam4me access ????
Hi
The old site was closed down.... see the beginning of this thread.
Yuri has started on the laborious task of re-writing all the web pages.
I would imagine the downloads section will be one of the last to return.
It may even have to be a pay section, to help pay for the hosting.
Emails to the old site I would imagine do bounce.
Cheers
Jon

Re: Steam4me access ????
I'm currently spending as much time as I can returning files. My priority has been tutorials ("teach a man to fish......."), route data files have been uploaded (~3G so far) and the route support pages are being worked on as I can. Once the routes are completely up to date, I'll start working on rolling stock files, but they're quite time-consuming (you may see a few items return as I work out the layout and coding for the rolling stock pages).
I have to say I'm impressed with how forgiving HTML is - I wince when I look at some of my early coding and wonder how it ever displayed: I'm recoding every HTML page with a CSS style sheet, which is actually leading to smaller, faster loading pages.
I've also found that the pages display perfectly under Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. IE7 and IE8 inexplicably sometimes insert blank half-screens part-way through some tutorials, even though the coding is identical above and below the "gap" that only IE shows (but it's generally understood that IE is the least standards-compliant browser).
I haven't received any email regarding Puffing Billy in the last week or so. I will say I ignore rolling stock request emails at the moment, but I will respond to and prioritise tutorials being returned on request.

....and a wife and three teenage boys (the oldest in final year of secondary school), so my time is stretched!Like many of us Yuri has a day job

Re: Steam4me access ????
Sorry to post on this again, but I have just noticed that the original Steam4me site is operational!!!
I clicked on the "links" tab of the UKTS toolbar?
That is going to cause some unfortunate confusion. Is it possible to amend this so that everyone is directed to the REAL Steam4me site?
i.e. http://msts.steam4me.net/

Re: Steam4me access ????
Sadly Ruf there's still a Blue Arrows link there too.
A recent trip across Europe by train got me interested in my own European site links in my favourites. Not having looked for a while I was alarmed to find so many apparently demised!! However a few live ones soon found updated links to others and although a few may have died I found most of what I remembered. If only ISP's were as reliable as most content providers?
Geoff
PS Great work Yuri. A drag you're having to do all this but it's much appreciated.
PPS Are any of the other sites linked with your previous ISP recovered or on new servers?
