Re: Steam4me access ????
With three sites down - not just Steam4me, but Railpage Australia & Coals to Newcastle too - this is actually more like the "Australian MSTS outage crisis". It is a great deal of shame that all three sites were down for a prolonged period and no-one still appears to come and solve a major outage. I suppose there's nothing anyone can do at the moment, and I am pretty sure all will return soon. Fingers crossed hopefully

Fingers crossed it will be back soon but in the mean time, as I say, let me know if I can assist.
Matt.
The forum link above made you appreciate the quality of the forum here!!! More speculation and waffle than info
Yes "surprise!", I was needing to refer to them just as this went down

Re: Steam4me access ????
Yet another case of Bizarre "moderation" on TrainSim.com?
A query about the Steam4Me web site situation has been answered by a link to this thread and the thread then locked??!!!
At least anyone who found the thread would be redirected here but as an important current issue I was (not) surprised (as it had been locked) to see that the thread had already dissapperd of their front page and was sinking fast. If no information is available it can't be posted but why lock such a thread? Surely everyone realises what a loss this is ...that's a given right?

Re: Steam4me access ????
"webslave" is the username for James Morgan, who was one of the back-end/admins in Railpage along with Michael Greenhill. He has just posted on www.whirlpool.net and I quote
"Non-technical" - sounds like an admin issue : this is certainly good news.Message from the front: Railpage isn't dead, and the issue is certainly a known one.
I can't provide specific information on the cause of the problem which is non-technical in nature, but can report that efforts are being made to provide a resolution.
You can certainly expect to see Railpage back.

What utter rubbish - this is false and misleading information.gremlin1812 wrote:G'Day All, It's up and running.
These links are WAY WAY out of date eg Newroads currently is at v4 with tsection.dat of 38: web archive is 3.2/34
The steam4me site is currently down because someone forgot to put another 20c in the meter!
I'm assured it will be back soon.
BTW, I had set the steam4me site to be overlooked by webarchive.org robots a couple of years ago as it meant I had lost control of items that could be subject to copyright and I then had lost the ability to delete items that were controversial or wrongly attributed: that's why much of webarchive's stuff is over 2 years old.
Webarchive.org information is NOT my site and their content has NEVER been sanctioned or approved by me: they have an arrogant "we are right / we are good" attitude that overrides honest and ethical behaviour and they seem to think that copyright doesn't apply to them because they are "archivists".
I will inform everyone here on UKTS as well as Railpage and 3dtrains forums when the REAL website is back : I can't on flame-sim as I was banned years ago.

Re: Steam4me access ????
From James "webslave" Morgan (one of RP's sysadmins) about 60 minutes ago
"It's an issue that I'm not allowed to discuss with the community despite wanting to. It's also an issue that currently nobody is able to assist with (ie financial, intellectual or legal help are not required at this time - YS).
"When information is available that I'm able to release to you this is the first place you'll read it. Right now the release of information will be counter-productive and could have serious real-world consequences for the parties involved. We're sure that the community will be understanding of this.
"Question: Without revealing any details do you have an ETA on getting the site going again ?
"Within a month is about as exact as we can be at the moment unfortunately. From a discussion the other night on the phone it could have been about a week, but my confidence level on that isn't high."

Re: Steam4me access ????
As we've suspected, the issue is confirmed as being non-technical - it's an internal dispute within Digital River Australia over Railpage hosting.
A statement has just been released by James Morgan on behalf of the Railpage team:
A statement has just been released by James Morgan on behalf of the Railpage team:
"During Brian Evans' leave (Brian is CEO of Digital River and owner of Railpage), one or more of the directors at Digital River took issue with the hosting arrangement for Railpage (you may recall that Digital River has provided very cheap hosting for us for a number of years). At this point it seems like there has been a falling-out between some of the DR directors.
As a result the Railpage servers have been switched off. All data is intact to the very best of our knowledge, we just don't have physical access to our infrastructure right now. DNS details are currently on Brian's desk at the DR office, so are not accessible to us until he returns.
We have requested permission to retrieve the servers as soon as possible so that we can move them to alternate hosting arrangements.
We thank our members for their ongoing understanding during this difficult time and apologise for the need for confidentiality during the early stages of this issue. I hope that many of you will now understand why this was a necessity.
More information will be posted when it becomes available."

Re: Steam4me access ????
Good news from Australia
The new Steam4me site is up at http://steam4me.net/
Not much on it at the moment as Yuri is manually transfering everything he has from his basic data
The links to Coals to Newcastle etc which use the Railpage server are still down

Brilliant News! I have just been on the new site. The Tutorials page is still being added to, so it may be a few weeks before everything is back to normal.
