EB East Coast - Issues

I'm just getting the hang of MSTS and ECE London-Peterborough.
The first thing I have noticed is the power controller on the HST is at zero nearest to you, and power is applied as you move it away. Looking at videos, it appears real locos do the opposite. Is this a known fault with EB or did things change over the last 10 years?
The other thing is there is no AWS etc which seems an odd omission. If you Google for this, there is the impression that AWS can be applied by add-ons, at least to some degree. What's the latest situation?

Hi.
you can add your own A.W.S into the routes file.
 | | | overspeed sound and distance traveled alerter sounds v1.0 [97596 bytes] - overspeed.zip File ID: 5780 Date: 29 May 2003 - 921 Downloads |
|
 | | | route a.w.s v2.0 [60084 bytes] - aws 2.0.zip File ID: 9385 Date: 21 Jun 2004 - 1738 Downloads |
|
 | | | route aws v.1.0 [137604 bytes] - route aws.zip File ID: 5650 Date: 09 May 2003 - 1695 Downloads |
|
.
or you could always add your own sounds. or ask for permission's to use A.W.S sounds from BVE trains and then correct the frequencies.

I'm not quite sure about the HST's throttle.
Simon.

I'm not knocking EB as the route is fairly good, but there are some far better HST's in the file libery it might pay you to try one of them and see the difference, also if I remeber right there are some coaches missing in the EB set.

If you really want a decent HST, you could do worse than the Making Tracks HST stockpack. It might not be free, but it's pretty good.

and then the free stock packs from the MT site.

the route is fairly good,
Whilst the general idea of the route is good enough, in fact the scenery is very inaccurate. A classic example is Welwyn Viaduct. Welwyn North station has some photographic-looking facias but in real life there is the village of Digswell, houses under tha viaduct and the whole conurbation of Welwyn Garden City in front of you. In EB you have....some trees.
It's a long way off Grand Theft Auto.

It's a long way off Grand Theft Auto.
It will be. All Train sims are the same.
It's a representation of the route, not an exact replica.
Dorset Coast is the same, but you don't see me kicking up a fuss because my local Tesco is missing do you?

Actually, GTA is fictional representation of an area as well, so what's your point ?

It's a lot more realistic looking than the GTA I remember

Personally, I do not really think you should mention "Grand Theft Auto" and "Realism" in the same sentence. Shooting spree's through some silly city is not my idea of realism.
It is very hard to make a life like route, and if you are having go at quite possibly one of their finest routes, I'd love to see what you'd say about their lesser quality ones!

Thanks for the warning.
I guess the GTA type games cost a thousand times as much to make.

And they probably sell more than a 1000 times as many copies.
I'm still not sure what your point is, you are comparing a highly popular multiplatform 'driving game' (well driving /killing etc...) with a very very train simulator product that under almost any commercial model is not in the slightest bit viable.

.... and probably has a much larger potential sales market than a specialist sim like the train simulators are. If you are going to sell a million or so copies you can put the investment in. I believe the average trainsim addon is doing well to sell 20,000 copies, most probably only sell a fraction of that number. So without the return developers cant afford to spend a lot of money on the investment. Bit of a catch 22 situation really

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, sold about 11,.1 million copies ($1bn).
Scottish Capital Express has sold about 500 copies.(lots less than<$1bn).
(Stock packs normally sell around 100-200 each.. although some don't even do 50 copies)
