Glad I'm Staying With MSTS

I have just spent the last hour on the Railworks Forums, reading about having to register with Steam, to get the product verified to run.

Has put me off installing RW. I was bought the new Tornado Version of RW as a Christmas present (it's still in the box with its cellophane wrapping) which I was going to have a look at after the New Year. After reading all the comments on the thread listed above, I think that my copy of Railworks will remain with its cellophane wraping ( SWMBO) bought it me from UKTrainsim CD Ordering, as a surprise but, I didn't really want it. But what can you say, she really thought it would be a surprise.

I'll treat you to a hair do and a big bunch of flowers. Aw!
I had a go with Railsim, which I bought myself when it first came out( all excited about how much better it might be than MSTS
) but I was not over the moon with it at all! After a few hours trying to fathom out how to run the dam thing,
I uninstalled it, had a moan to myself for spending thirty odd quid,
then put it back in its box, and banished it to the cupboard in my computer desk, where its remained ever since.
It seems that RailWorks, is just a jumped up version of RS and theirfore will still perform the just the same, be just as difficult to get my old head around as RS. To add insult to injury, what I don't like about it is, having to sign up to Steam to get the dam thing activated, before it can be used. It seems that many games are going down this path and before long, CD's/DVD's will be a thing of the past as far as PC Games are concerned; and only games linked to these sort of sites will be available for download only. :bad-words: Maybe I have a technology phobia, well its my age you know, but I don't want to have to join these sort of sites before I can play a game, or run a simulator. When you purchase a game/simulator on CD/DVD, you should be able to load it without having to go on the internet to be able to get it to load. This is pure controlism over what you are allowed to play or what you can't play. Like the Nanny State we are now living in, controled by a Government or do gooders. YOU WILL DO AS WE SAY!
MSTS may be old hat as far as RS/RW is concerned, but hey, I can install it without having to sign up to an internet site before I can play it. and I can buy add ons for it, or download addons without having to log on to play them. Is this the way of the future. Thank the Lord I have only thirty more years at the outside, if I manage 95 that is,(my Grandad manage 98 and he smoked and liked a tipple) and if I do, I'm taking a plenty of baccy, my lighter & my MSTS with me, (by then Coffins will be fitted with built in computers) so I can run trains and puff away merrily, up there as well! Oh and maybe the odd bottle of Rum (ex submariner) to keep me warm!
No seriously, MSTS has give me so much pleasure over the past eight years, I am just beginning to enjoy what I have managed to achieve with it. I am gradually getting to the stage, where I can't be bothered to learn new tricks, for a new simulator that imho, is not much an improvement on MSTS. Maybe the graphics are that little much better, but MSTS is a lot better graphically, than it was when it first came out. I much prefer the method for making up activities in MSTS than trying to make up a scenario in RS. Add to this all the stuff available and more still being done, who needs change, I certainly don't, I am happy with what I've got thank you very much.
