Microsoft Train Simulator

Post by aj52mdy »

A Very silly question to ask. But does anyone know where I can obtain a new copy of the basic Microsoft
train simulator.
Mine is one of rhe 2001 original batch, Its OK but is getting rather slow.

I cannot see a copy available in the CD ordering section.

Many thanks.

Not sure what you mean by slow but play.com have some:

http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searcht ... x=0&go.y=0

As does Amazon:

It hasnt changed since then so it will be the same as the version you already have. The only improvements which have been done have been done by Community members, like Georges Msts Bin improvments. The current version of the game is exactly the same as the original.

Yes Thanks, What i should have said was, that I have had mine since 2001 and it takes rather longer these days perhaps I wont update it to the 2005 version just yet but thanks for the links.

Andy,

It is a good idea to have a good copy of MSTS as a standby in case you need to reinstall. Old copies can get scratched and fail to install properly.

As Laurie has said. It is not the version of the Game. There is no other MSTS all you can do is Download the 1.4 update from Steam4Me, I think.

Maybe you could tell us which routes you have installed, roughly how much stock you have and weather you use TrainStore.

Good luck

I would add that if you are experiencing long loading times, then Trainstore is a must.

Hello everyone.
I may not have made myself very clear at the start, for which I apologise, But thanks for all the helpful input.

What it is, I fear my 2001 bought version of The basic MSTS might be in the early stages of "Computer dementure"
When I load It, it takes nearly an hour for the icons to load , The Consist editor does not work though i do use ConBuilder
If i get a problem and the dreaded send/Dont send message occurs I have to eventually uninstall and reinstall the whole lot..
I can not uninstall using the Add Remove programme indeed MSTS appears twice in the add/remove programme as MSTS
and as Niagra corridor one of the canadian routes i have but is not installed.
To uninstall MSTS it has to be done via the Recycle bin a very long and time consuming process.
Yes, I have Trainstore Conbuilder, Bin 1.7. X tracks Fine scale all the updates including TS Unpack.
Routes: Payware include Severn valley Swanage Cambrian 1 East Lancs, London Southeast Steyning North wales Coast
plus several from Europe/North America.
I dont run any of the six originals but understand they have to be installed to run the game.

As yet i have not purchased the 2005 version awaiting further advice.

Cheers

That's more symptomatic of a more pressing problem with your computer rather than MSTS.

I'd be inclined to test your hard drive for errors and possibly purchase a new one to reinstall everything onto.

Might be useful for you to 'Post' your Computer specification for the knowledgeable members to evaluate. :-?
I can not uninstall using the Add Remove programme indeed MSTS appears twice in the add/remove programme as MSTS
This is not the correct way to un-install MSTS, you should always use the 'Uninstall' program on one of the MSTS Disks as explained in the Manual.

It is possible to remove Microsoft Train Simulator "by hand" but it can be a long process and potentially dangerous if you remove something you did not intend!
Using the Windows search facility will show you where all the pieces are.
Far better to use the official Uninstall. But that will not necessarily delete all the add-ons that you have installed.

Unfortunaly, my Copy will not let me do the the official uninstall it "freezes" so have to uninstall manually.
I do take care and uninstall a bit at a time.

Anyway I have reinstalled tonight and surprise, It loaded the icons fairly quickly i am running an add on and it is as smooth as a furnance.
Perhaps my Copy of MSTS heeded the threat :)

I dont think there is anything wrong with the computer, Fraid i cant remember exact specs but had it built last year 2008 and i can run MSTS with all sliders wide open.

Cheers
