Departmental Liveried Loco's

Post by ForburyLion »

I seem to recall seeing a picture of a class 45 in a departmental colourscheme (Standard Blue with big red band accross the bodyside, similar to the class 24 "Experiment").... Is this just my memory playing tricks?

I also recall an AC Electric in this blue/red scheme which was used in a depot to provide power from the the O/H wires to coaches and a class 31 in a mostly red scheme (Lima produced a model of this).

Does anyone have any further information on any of these locomotives?

It's 46035 whilst in service with Derby RTC as 97403 "Ixion" and was being used at the time to develop traction motor technology.

Post by champy »

Thats odd why didnt Basil post a reply to this too?

After all the pic of PC Basil the Dog controlling traffic from the car park roof at Basingstoke was to do with the very same show this Departmental loco was at ? wasnt it Basil?

(See 'What do you look like post....')

Also class 84 84009 shared this colour scheme something to do with a battery bank loco?Maybe someone can enlighten us all?

31 970 was the red peril, thats where the VBR logo below comes from. I am waiting contentley for puals Class 31 model to be updated (because its not the best model in the world) and kim is not letting anyone repaint his baby. So when when we get a new Class 31 I personally will paint

31 107 in RF grey
31 455 Our Eil in Provincial livery

and 31 970 in the dept livery

i might do it sooner if u can twist my arm and if i have any room in my works after the 50s which look like there going ahead

Basil didn't reply to this because Basil was too busy sorting out uploads! Besides, I knew it would be answered because Glyn and I used to work together in the dim and distant past and SnowcrashAndy visited the railshow and took the pictures, including the posted one! And he was controlling crowd flow and loco positioning moves at the time and the roof was the best vantage point to watch all what was going on and to be able to get a decent shot of D200 passing with a special train!

Well you might be in luck - it is quite possible that the 31 will be the next revamp after the 58 is done! :)

Lets just get the model updated first, i dont see any point in painting a locomotive if it is going to be scrapped and overhauled in a matter of months. Thats a waste of time, money and paint (like i get paid for it anyway  ). If basildd has it on his to do list i will get my brushes out when he has finished tinkering
