Train goes flying

Post by energize »

Hello, I've got a problem with activity 69 from the Thames-Mersey 4.2 DVD (patched to 4.3) "Kestrel testing". I've followed the activity's directions, which are: head into Basford Hall yard, stop 0.2 metres from the signal guarding the exit to the main line, uncouple, and reverse onto an 86 in an adjacent siding. When I try coupling, the 86 will not couple, and when hit at about 5mph, the 86 derails, starts jiggling about and Kestrel derails. I use MSTSbin 1.8 - is this the problem?

Cheers,

Tom

Its more likely to be the bounding boxes which are too large, although I would have thought that they had all been checked. Im not an expert on checking and altering these things so i'll leave someone else to explain how to go about it, if you need an explanation :)

Hi Tom
You could try a pre Bin 'default.wag' ....... if it is effecting a lot of the stock.
TM was written before Bin.
If its only a couple of locos then try reducing the inertia box by 0.3 below the length of loco.
Some of the continental sites now offer sets of 2 eng files, those with 30cm couplings and those with 80cm couplings.
The bin patch did 'stiffen up' the coupling.
Cheers

Hi Tom, as Laurie says it could be the Bounding Boxes causing the problem, do a search on this Forum for Bounding Box Errors and read what I wrote under the heading Desiro Failure on the 13th April 2009 which is near the top of the list.
This may point you in the write direction and hopefully get round your problem.

Thanks, I've opened the eng. files of the two offending locos using BoundingBox and it didn't show any errors. So I followed jbilton's advice and decreased the inertial tension of the length of both locos by 0.3. I then tried the activity again and the 86 still went flying.

Any other suggestions please?

Hi,
I tested this activity with the CD version of Thames Mersey 4.3
I am using Bin Patch 1.8***** (the last one realesed)
No coupling problems at all. At 2-3 MPH.

Even though the dead 86224 has a mixture of couplings. in green below.

Here are the Coupling lines from the Stock on the CD.
Paste these lines into the relevent eng/wag files.
If you still have problems remove the second Coupling Statement (The Chain one) from the dead 86224.
Copy/backup the originals first. 8)

Thanks, I've checked the coupling details with those in the appropriate eng. and wag. files, but they're exactly the same. And I do have MSTSbin 1.8 installed since I had to install it to allow Doug Kightley's Metrolink trams to work. I'll try reinstalling MSTSbin and see what happens.

Hi
Uninstall mstsbin via the opitin in the root of msts.

For bounding box corrections, etc. use RouteRiter. Check relevant tutorial in Steam4me first.
