Newbie question about "2 minor operational errors"

Post by snoon »

Hi all,

I've just completed my first activity - the one where you have to drive the Class 50 to via Horton to see the Flying Scotsman and then onwards to Settle.

The game says I completed it okay but with "2 minor operational errors". Both errors are that the emergency brake was applied twice.

What am I doing wrong? Is it something to do with the fact that I am using the simple controls setting and I always struggle to stop in time for stations but just about managed with the Class 50 on this run.

Any advice as always gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks,

Steve.

Train driving is not easy.

It just takes time to get used to the controls.
Remember that it takes time for a train to stop so cut power and start braking about 1 mile before your stop.

We all get caught out by the emergency brake sometimes.

I would also suggest that you don't use simple controls. You will not get the full driving experience using it.

If it's got buffers it's Chain.

I find a good guide is to use the distance to the next station stop in the station indicator = speed im travelling. So if im doing 85mph I dont start braking until im 0.85 miles from the next stop. I adjust my braking so that it stays in the same region, which means i arrive at the station 0.30 at about 30mph which i think is fairly accurate, then adjust the last few yards accordingly.
