Error Database File Problem

Post by PGH60 »

I recently downloaded and installed two activities for the Evesham Branch and everything seemed to be alright ,last night when loading up i got a message on screen saying Error Reading Train Database File followed by a long file number which i could not work out in fact now MSTS will not load because i just get this error message ,i have reloaded both MSTS and Evesham but to no avail. Could i have messed The Evesham CD up? or can this problem be sorted out i am deperate because i have not got a clue what to do. Thanks.

You need to tell us what the error message says - the file name is vital. You are probably missing an item of rolling stock that the activities require.

You did read the Readme file, didn't you?

Hi The file says Error Reading Train Database File TRAIN\TRAINSET\MT_DB_Class101_Green_EVE\MT_DB_Class101Gr DMBS_M50308,eng Line154 There is no extra stock required. There is a Consist File for a replacement tender which i tried to install but after trying several times with no luck, i found via the forums you had to copy and paste it may be i have done by trying to unzip it into the cosist file Thanks

Usually eng file errors containing a line number are due to the fact that the unit requires the Bin patch to display the lights properly. Have you installed the MstsBin patch? If not you can get the latest from the link on the Bin patch forum.

As Laurie says, it does sound like you've installed the Bin versions of the stock when you're not running MSTS Bin. If that is the case you can either install Bin (which is a good idea) or put the Typical (non-Bin) versions of the stock into your installation instead.

If you wnt to do the latter, look in your Train Simulator folder for a Folder called MakingTracks Support Files\Evesham and then run the program in there called MT_Evesham_Engine_Switcher.exe. That will let you install the other versions.

I see lots of people saying this.

I don't understand how this will happen. If theres something wrong with some stock JUST that stock will not load.
If theres a problem with an eng or wag file you just click 'continue' (or what ever it actually says).

You might get the message a few times, and when exiting an activity, but MSTS does still work.
Or am I missing some big point ?

I think sometimes, if the item of stock cant be placed because of a problem with it of some sort, it can lead to a Train World Initialisation Error and stop msts from loading. You cant get beyond that until you fix the error.

Yes, for an act that uses that stock in it, but not for all routes with any stock surely ?

When you post the full and exact error message people will be in a much better position to try and diagnose it.....

Well I covered the most likely above. It sounds like you are using Bin stock without having them Bin patch installed.
Make sure you are running the latest version of the bin patch.
Are you running Vista or XP. If vista make sure your permissions are set up correctly and the Bin Patch isnt being blocked by Vista.

As LAD491 has already diagnosed....

Line 154 is a lighting line.
It contains a MSTSBin only value.
So you have (in at least the case of the Class 101 DMU) got MSTSBin stock installed and your system is not running MSTSBin. You might think you had installed it, but without any doubt its not running using it.

Latimers has explained how to run the application which converts file types between Bin and nonBin.

It might be that the act has installed an eng file over the top of what you had already installed, which if it has is not a good thing.

Also, to clarify, your MSTS is not totally broken. It goes back to the desktop because you select not to continue.

Anyway i would like to thank everyone for there time and patience for helping me solve the problem .Cheers PGH60

If you open ypur Train Simulator folder in Microsoft Games and you have the bin patch installed, you will see there a folder MSTSBIN_BACKUP and also a file Uninst_MSTS Patch 1.8.0521 EN.exe ( the numbers may be different according to,the bin version installed). Running the Uninst file will safely remove the bin patch
